Dear GAA families,
As we wind down towards the end of January, we prepare for our face-to-face return to school on Tuesday, February 16th. We are excited to see the students in person and continue with engaging with our distance learners on zoom and SeeSaw. Kindergarten will continue with the A/B alternating day model to ensure the health and safety of our community.
I am excited to meet you at our virtual parent coffee on February 10th at 3pm. Our team will be discussing all areas of distance learning, return to school and any questions you have. If you can’t make it, please don’t hesitate to contact me and we can set up a call.
Report cards have been sent out on February 4th for the first Semester. Teachers and students have been working together to set learning goals and next steps for the new semester ahead. We look forward to meeting you for parent conferences on March 3rd and 4th. More information on how to sign up will be sent out over the coming weeks.
Thank you for all of your support and collaboration during our distance learning. Thank you for working with students at home to support their learning virtually. We appreciate you.
Wishing you all a restful weekend ahead!
Niamh Callanan
KG Vice Principal
Absolutely Amazing KG1A have been hard at work since returning from Winter Break. Each morning I am met with big smiling happy faces to start off the day the KG1A way! We’ve been talking lots about living and non - living things, we’ve planted our very own beanstalks and we even had some special furry friends visit our live sessions!
This week in KG2, we started our new Unit of Inquiry: How We Express Ourselves! In this unit we will be exploring the many ways stories can be told, and how they can express meaning. We started off by reading ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance.’ Through this book, students learned what the character of the story is and what the setting of a story is. We also became risk takers and wrote about things that we want to learn to do, just like Gerald from the book!
In math, we have been learning how to measure the volume of different containers. We did this by using things like water or rice to compare which containers could hold the most or the least!
KG2 students continue wonderful work during our online learning!
In KG PE, we are exercising every week on Zoom and also doing our Seesaw activities. We are exploring different body movements and exercises. We are having fun dancing and doing some yoga. We also love doing warm ups with Little Sports and Joe Wicks. We are having so much fun and enjoying our various activities together online.
We can all agree that this year is very unique and our lives are very different than before.
The 2020/2021 yearbook will have a very personal feel to it and will capture the craziness of this school year.
Due to safety restrictions and considering that number of our students are still on full distance learning, we will not have Stu Williamson take student formal photos at school this year. In case things change, we may schedule the photoshoot for March 2021.
This is where we need our Parents and Students' help:
For KG/Elementary, we ask that parents send a recent picture of their child doing anything they like, eating, playing, exercising... clear face and good lighting.
For MS/HS, we ask that students send us a selfie, that can be funny but appropriate.
Homeroom and advisory teachers will reach out to their students/parents shortly with details. We hope to get the photos before the Winter Break.
Let's make a delicious lemonade out of the lemons, so generously given by 2020!
