December 9, 2021 Issue (next issue on January 6, 2022))
Dear GAA Families,
If you are like me, you might be amazed at the fact that we are at winter break. The year is passing quickly, and we are feeling tired. Winter break is an excellent time to rest and reorient ourselves to more successfully align with our goals.
The Covid lockdowns taught us the importance of wellbeing. Please use the winter break to make sure that you are taking care of yourselves, which means not only resting and relaxing but also reflecting and processing emotions and thoughts.
Resilience in students begins with healthy routines. Over the past decade, research has shown the importance of sleep and a consistent sleep cycle. Additionally, a healthy diet and regular exercise are essential. Balancing these three components, sleep, diet, and exercise, helps students, and all of us, to meet the challenges of school.
Unfortunately, during winter break, many students become undisciplined in these three areas, which leads to increased fatigue, physical, mental, and emotional. Subsequently, once school starts again, students have difficulty managing the routines of school, particularly the early start.
I will leave you with this aphorism: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Enjoy your break! If you are traveling, I wish you safe travels. I hope you have a chance to reconnect with family and friends.
Sincerely,
Kain Klinkhammer
