Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! I sincerely hope that 2021 brings much needed stability and opportunities for growth for all. After the turmoil of 2020, I feel a sense of optimism for what is to come.
As the term draws to a close, the school community turns its attention closer to assessment. Conversations about school reports can be stressful for children and parents. Here are some helpful suggestions to guide these coming conversations:
Ask your child how they think they did before reviewing the report.
Treat suggestions and negative comments as goals and opportunities to improve in the second half of the year.
Offer specific praise on good point that you see, instead of a general comment, like ‘Good’.
We look forward to seeing your students in school soon. Of course, we can expect further transition to come, as we work to emerge from under the shadow of COVID 19. Please bear with us as we continue to adjust to respond to the changing situation and guidelines under which we operate. Please know that we are working hard to get more students in classrooms together while keeping them safe and successful in their studies.
All the best,
John O’Neill
Grade 3, 4 & 5 Vice Principal
On 29th and 30th of December 2020, Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club hosted New Year Sailing Regatta. Simeon Hristov from Grade 5A participated successfully and won 2nd place in his age group. Congratulation Simeon!
Even though our class is full time distance learning we a lot of learning has been occurring in class 1G. 1G students have been thriving with their daily routines and work. Our favorite part of the day is our morning and afternoon meetings where everyone is actively involved with their learning. We have been studying different traditions and celebrations. Our class has discovered the importance of family especially during the past year. We have focused on how we celebrated the New Year. We all are ecstatic to say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021. We have been reflecting on all the lessons learned during 2020.
The past few days since we returned to school we have been sharing our favorite memories of the Winter break.
Last month here in grade 5C we worked through our third Unit of Inquiry, How We Organize Ourselves. In this unit we focused our attention on advertising. Students took the time to think critically about the impact social media, marketing and corporations have on our actions and choices. We explored, observed, questioned, and critiqued how advertisers use our online data to build and focus their advertisements. We further discussed how colour, slogans, and emotion are used to target specific people.
By the end of the month, students had a significant knowledge of advertisement strategies in their toolbox and began to create their own. Students used a variety of mediums in which to share their knowledge, some drew and created their designs from scratch, others incorporated and modified advertisements and others even created their own videos. Here, Fahad created a brilliant marketing video for Nescafe using amazing transitions and focus. Zayed invented his own organic vegetable company (Green Basket) and even invited chef Gordon Ramsey (as played by his little brother) to act as a spokesman. Jody took to sketching her lovely advertisement for a dog shelter. We had a great time creating and sharing our advertisements.
We in Grade 5C cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us. We are so excited to show what we can do for the grade 5 Exhibition.

Dear Parents,
As Salam U Alykum,
Despite all the existing challenges and difficulties, the Islamic Education Department has continued to achieve its goals and standards, and has encouraged students to understand different topics, Surahs and honorable Ahadeeth. They are learning Islamic values through various activities inside the classroom, and we are now working to encourage students to recite through the challenge of reciting the Holy Qur’an. Read and recite, and students who will participate will be honored in the holy month of Ramadan.
We are pleased to share these images from Islamic classes.
We can all agree that this year is very unique and our lives are very different than before.
The 2020/2021 yearbook will have a very personal feel to it and will capture the craziness of this school year.
Due to safety restrictions and considering that number of our students are still on full distance learning, we will not have Stu Williamson take student formal photos at school this year. In case things change, we may schedule the photoshoot for March 2021.
This is where we need our Parents and Students' help:
For KG/Elementary, we ask that parents send a recent picture of their child doing anything they like, eating, playing, exercising... clear face and good lighting.
For MS/HS, we ask that students send us a selfie, that can be funny but appropriate.
Homeroom and advisory teachers will reach out to their students/parents shortly with details. We hope to get the photos before the Winter Break.
Let's make a delicious lemonade out of the lemons, so generously given by 2020!
