Dear GAA Parents,

Distance Learning begins Sunday, 22 March. Please make sure your students are ready. We will be taking attendance during each class. I wrote an email addressing the challenges we are facing as a community, but as I stated in that email, we have opportunities as well. Fortunately, we already have a system to help guide us, our AtLs: self-management, thinking, research, collaboration, communication, and reflection. Work with your students to develop and to refine these attributes. Students who develop these skills will be successful during distance learning and in the future.

Check your students' PowerSchool Class Pages for teacher specifics. We will have live session during the last three periods of the day (after 11 am UAE time). Most teachers will use Google Hangouts for their live session. Please communicate your needs during this time, and encourage your students to do the same as well.

• The primary tools for communication between teachers and families will be PowerSchool, ManageBac (for High School students), Google Classroom and email.
• Distance learning for our adolescent learners will focus on having a balanced, holistic learning experience. Students will have both off- and on-screen learning activities designed to engage the Middle and High School learners.
• Learning experiences are designed to be completed independently or in collaboration with other students. Tutoring is not recommended, nor should a parent/guardian be too involved.
• Resources vary by class and lesson, but will be accessible through familiar means, such as PowerSchool, ClassPages, Google Classroom, etc. The resources may include links to videos, Google documents, scanned material to read and engage with, independent research material using our databases, reading materials including ebooks and audiobooks, etc.
• Students are encouraged to be proactive in reaching out to teachers when they have questions or assignments are unclear.
• Counselors and advisors are always available to support students with academic, social, or emotional needs.
