Troubleshooting

Student Accounts

Network

Used to log on to Windows laptops and desktops.

Username: Student ID Number
Password: HUB Password- note that the first letter is always capitalized.

Google

Used to access Chromebooks and apps in the Google suite.

Username: ######@ga.aliefisd.net
Password: After initial set up, the password is chosen by students.

Guest WIFI: AISDBYOD

BYOD stands for Bring Your Own Device. When students are using Chromebooks or their own devices, they must use the AISDBYOD network for internet access. Students must use their own log in and password. Staff members should never log in for a student. This network filters the same as our AISD network following CIPA guidelines, helping keep our students safe when online.

Username: Student ID Number
Password: HUB Password- note that the first letter is always capitalized

If a student has locked themselves out or does not know their Network account or Google account, please call ext 22530 for assistance.

Chromebooks

Logging In To Chromebooks

Students should log in to their Chromebooks using their Alief Gmail accounts (see above for log in information).

When students log in to their Alief Gmail:

  • Students have access to their Google Drive and saved documents

  • Students can access programs through the HUB! that do not work in Guest mode

  • Student work and search history can be referenced in the event of an AUP/RUP violation

Powerwashing Chromebooks

Is your Chromebook frozen? Not quite acting right? Maybe your student doesn't know the password for the account currently logged in. No worries! Powerwash it!

  • Go to the log in screen (exit guest if you are on that profile)

  • Hold down CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + R on the keyboard

  • Click through to delete all data

  • Set up WiFi (using a hotspot OR the AISDBYOD)

  • Sign in using their Google Account (see above)

IStation on Chromebooks

If your students are unable to use iStation on their Chromebook, check the following:

  • Is your student logged in to the Chromebook?

    • Students must be signed in to their Chromebook using their @ga.aliefisd.net account. IStation will not work if they are in the GUEST account.

      • Click on the Quick Settings Panel at the bottom right of your screen.

      • If the pop up window has the student's name, proceed to the next step. If you see "guest", click exit and sign the student in to the Chromebook.

  • Ensure that the student has installed the iStation and Classlink Extensions on their account. The easiest way to do this is simply search "istation extension" and "classlink extension" using the Chromebook, then click to install each.

Installing & troubleshooting cambium

Installing Cambium

Do your students need to install Cambium for assessments on their district device? It's easy and they can do it on their own!

  • Click the start menu

  • Type & open "Software Center"

  • All apps available for your students are located in this folder. Have them click to install Cambium

Windows Devices

Restart Regularly

Many common issues with laptop computers and desktop computers can be solved by restarting them regularly. When a computer is restarted, it has the opportunity to install important updates that keep your device running smoothly and safely.

Alief desktops will shut down and install updates automatically each day. At the end of the day, leave your desktop on and locked (use the windows key + L to lock it). When you come in the next morning, it will be off and ready for you to power it back on.

You can also restart your laptop on your own:

  • Click the start menu

  • Click the power icon

  • Click restart

  • Allow your computer to install any updates- this may take a few minutes

WiFi Issues

Alief Windows laptops should automatically connect to the AISD network, but sometimes they need a little help.

If your or your students Alief Windows laptop will not connect automatically, try this:

  • First, make sure that WiFi is turned on.

  • Plug the laptop into an ethernet cable (you can unplug one from a desktop, just remember to reconnect it when done)

  • Restart the laptop

  • Unplug the ethernet cable

  • Try logging in again

Ethernet Cables

Ethernet cords are often blue, but can also be found in a variety of other colors. They are used to connect a laptop or desktop to the Alief network.
When having a connection problem, make sure both ends are plugged in securely.

No Logon Servers

If your device tells you that there are no logon servers, you will need to call Tech Services at #22530 and put in a help ticket.

A representative will come to assist you on campus.

District Phones

Phone Basics

District phones, like desktop computers, are connected by the Ethernet cord. Phones are powered on through the Ethernet port. Only one port in your whole room will power the phone on – check the back for the port number to plug into.

Phone - Do Not Disturb

Do Not Disturb

For instances like testing you may need to silence your phone in your classroom. Follow the directions on the video to turn on do not disturb. Remember reset it at the end of testing.

For assistance with resetting your voicemail password, please contact Gerard Tafallo using your Alief Outlook. Include your extension number.
