Build your digital skillset, Practice new tools, and embrace 1:1

Thriving With Technology

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers and other instructional staff, participants will learn how to plan for 1:1 devices for every student, every day in grades 3-12. Participants will consider their experience with classroom technology and set expectations for the upcoming year. Participants will create a plan for monitoring students on devices, building digital citizenship, set expectations for device use in their classroom, create positive and negative consequences for technology use, and identify ways to integrate technology into their instructional plans. After the session, participants will be able to start the new school year with a framework for 1:1 in their classroom.

Schoology and STAAR: Achieving Question Alignment for Optimal Online Learning

In this course, geared toward teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn how to align their assessment questions in Schoology with the new online question types being used on the STAAR test. During this session, we will review the different types of online questions being used on STAAR and discuss best practices for creating and aligning these questions in Schoology. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to try out the new question types in Schoology and receive feedback on their work. After the session, participants will be able to integrate Schoology assessment question types into their regular assessments to prepare students for STAAR questions. Participants will have a better understanding of how to use Schoology to create questions that are closely aligned with STAAR and will have had the chance to practice creating these questions themselves.

Designing Your Digital Classroom

In this course, geared toward instructional staff, participants will learn how to design an engaging, rigorous, and interactive Schoology course that is aligned to content TEKS. After the session, participants will be able to use their newly created course with students.

Digital Citizenship & Online Safety

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers, participants will learn to define digital citizenship and digital footprint and to understand online safety to protect ourselves and students. Participants will have the opportunity to create materials, which includes a lesson plan and a make and take activity. Participants will be introduced to a variety of resources they can utilize to teach digital citizenship and online safety. After the session, participants will be able to teach a digital citizenship or online safety lesson plan created during the course and a make and take activity to use in the future.

LINC - Independent Playlist - Self Guided Onboarding & Foundational Playlist

LINCspring Learning is here! This new platform includes opportunities for professional learning that are focused on designing student-centered learning experiences. Teachers and instructional staff will select & complete course cycles based on recommended playlists, proficiency levels, and interest.

Professional development credit is available for teachers and staff who:

  • Complete LINC’s Self-Guided Onboarding

  • Thoughtfully complete the three (3) LINCspring learning cycles in the Alief ISD Foundational Playlist. (Planning For High Quality Blended Learning , Unpacking Standards For Acceleration, Blended Learning - The Why & The What)

Completion of onboarding and the recommended playlist before February 28, 2023 earns teachers and staff seven (7) hours of district professional development credit. This ONLINE course window opened March 1, 2022 and will close February, 28, 2023.

LINC - Independent Playlist - Balance With Blended Learning

Balance with Blended Learning aims to help teachers rethink traditional workflows and encourage students to take the lead when it comes to thinking critically about their work, evaluating what their work reveals about their skill sets, and reflecting on their learning. If teachers rethink traditional workflows, they can improve learning for students and find time for themselves! Teachers and instructional staff can earn 3.5 hours of district credit for thoughtfully completing the following LINCspring cycles from the Balance With Blended Learning Playlist:

  • Rethinking the Traditional Workflows

  • Alief - Creating Rubrics That Act as Roadmaps

Completion of the recommended playlist before February 28, 2023 earns teachers and staff three and a half (3.5) hours of district professional development credit. This ONLINE course window opened March 1, 2022 and will close February, 28, 2023. Note: Professional development credit for the completion of the Balance with Blended Learning Playlist will be posted by the end of the month following playlist completion.

LINC - Instructional Technology To Support Differentiation

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers and other instructional staff, participants will learn how to differentiate student instruction using instructional technology. Participants will learn about LINC cycles and tinker with digitally differentiated assignments, creating robust playlists, and delivering quality instruction using blended learning models. After the session, participants will be able to leverage classroom technology to differentiate instruction for a diverse group of students.

RTG- This course consists of 2 hours of face-to-face class time with your coach and 5 hours of job embedded activities and reflection.

LINC- Enriching Instruction With Schoology

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers and other instructional staff, participants will learn how to leverage Schoology features to amplify instruction, build community, and increase personalization within their courses through LINC cycles.

RTG- This course consists of 2 hours of face-to-face class time with your coach and 5 hours of job embedded activities and reflection.

After the session, participants will reflect, tinker, grow and be ready to go when it comes to utilizing Schoology features to differentiate instruction and accommodate student needs. Both the face-to-face and the RTG must be completed to earn credit.

Keeping Our Kids Safe ONLINE

In this course, geared toward all Alief staff, participants will learn about digital citizenship, internet safety, digital footprints, cyber crimes, and being a part of the technological global community. After the session, participants will be able to help keep our students safe by teaching the importance of appropriate and responsible behavior when using technology.

Using Visuals, Audio, & Video to Create Captivating Digital Courses ONLINE

In this course, geared toward Teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn experience opportunities to increase student participation by appealing to a variety of learning styles. Course participants will explore audio, video and visual tools to engage learners through increased collaboration, promote content connections and creativity, and create a captivating and inviting digital classroom environment. After the session, participants will be empowered to increase engagement and participation in their student-centered Schoology courses by implementing new multimedia tools and emphasizing digital products.

Embedding Resources ONLINE

In this course, geared toward instructional staff, participants will learn how to embed a variety of resources and digital tools within Schoology courses. Embedding tools can create a seamless lesson experience for students and teachers, allowing students to access outside resources without ever having to leave the Schoology platform! After the session, participants will be able to engage students with a variety of resources and digital tools without having to navigate away from the Schoology platform.

Schoology Discussions- Deeper Dive

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers, participants will learn how to dig deeper with Schoology Discussions through Rigor, Relevance, and Engagement. Participants will have the opportunity to create a well-thought-out discussion board to use with their classes. After the session, participants will be able to create a discussion board that will include the following components of Rigor, Relevance, and Engagement: prompts, norms, layered questions, student aids, and rubrics.

Intro to Robotics and Coding in the Classroom

In this course, geared toward teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn the foundational skills of coding in the classroom including online coding applications, unplugged coding, and easy to implement robotics programs that can get students to think creatively, develop problem solving skills, and collaborate across contents. After the session, participants will be able to help students code to create interactive stories, games, and animations related to content.

Tiny Robots, High Engagement: Coding With Ozobots

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers and other instructional staff, participants will learn the standard functions and operation of the Ozobots. Participants will engage in hands-on activities to familiarize themselves with Ozobots during the session. Participants will learn how to incorporate coding robots into lessons in a way that encourages students to think creatively, solve problems, and collaborate. After the session, participants will be able to integrate Ozobot coding into their classroom lessons.

Robust Digital Research and Information Resources Available in Alief

In this course, geared toward instructional professionals and library paraprofessionals, participants will learn the basics of how to use a multitude of electronic resources that are available in our district. These resources include: Britannica, WorldBook, EBSCO, Learn360, Gale, Sirs Discover, BrainPop, TeachingBooks, PebbleGo, and World Almanac. After the session, participants will be able to log in to the electronic resources and show their students how to use them for learning. This session will be face to face.

Access to Even More Robust Digital Research and Information Resources via Houston Public Library Learning Link

In this course, geared toward instructional professionals and library paraprofessionals, participants will learn about the partnership between Alief ISD and Houston Public Library, how students and teachers can checkout physical and electronic resources and how to access the digital resources available via HPL Learning Link. Participants will also learn about the free electronic job skill training, the free tutoring, and the free e-books available to all Alief staff and students through this partnership. After the session, participants will be able to log in to the electronic resources and show their students how to use them for learning. This session will be face to face.

iPads - Clips In The Classroom

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers and other instructional staff, participants will learn how to create and edit videos using tools and features of Apple Clips in the K-12 classroom. After the session, participants will be able to integrate Apple Clips into projects and lessons with students.

iPads - Numbers For More Than Just Math

In this course, geared toward elementary teachers, paraprofessionals, and other instructional staff, participants will learn all about iPads in the primary classroom. Participants will dive deep into the iPad app Numbers and explore unexpected ways to use it across all content areas. Participants will also get a first hand look at what the new student log-ins look like and how to manage them. After the session, participants will be able to build lessons for iPad centers and better manage their iPads in the classroom.

Get The Most Out Of Your Panel

Clear Touch 101

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and all other instructional staff, participants will learn how to navigate the new Alief ISD Clear Touch interactive panels. Participants will learn about the tools included with the board as well as tips and tricks for customizing the board to fit the needs of your classroom. After the session, participants will be able to navigate the Clear Touch panels and consider the features when planning engaging classroom lessons.

Clear Touch 201 - Lessons

In this course, geared toward teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn how to create and edit lessons in Snowflake. Participants will experiment with various activity types and learn how to customize the content to fit any subject or need. Participants will also learn how to share lesson activities with their teams and other teachers across the district. After the session, participants will be able to edit, customize, and share Clear Touch Snowflake lessons and content.

Clear Touch 201 - Student Activities

We recommend taking Clear Touch 201 - Lessons prior to this course.

In this course, geared toward teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn about activities and lessons in Snowflake. Learn how to generate student assignments, send out templates to students, and access student results and data. After the session, participants will be able to integrate Snowflake into their lessons in ways that elevate student engagement and ownership in classroom content.

Clear Touch 201 - Collage

In this course, geared toward teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn strategies for integrating the wireless screen mirroring with Clear Touch Collage into instruction in their classroom or professional learning environment. After the session, participants will be able to connect student and staff devices to their Clear Touch board, navigate necessary features, and identify management strategies for moderating student usage.

Clear Touch 201 - Chorus/Canvas Learning Lab

This is an advanced course. We recommend taking Clear Touch 101 before taking this course. This session does include work time. Please come with an idea of the content you would like to focus on to make the most of your time with us.

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn how to utilize and integrate the onboard whiteboard features on your Clear Touch panel beyond the basics. After the session, participants will be able to design, plan, save, and export Clear Touch Chorus materials to share with other classes, other staff members, or on Schoology in meaningful ways.

Clear Touch 301 - Lessons & Activities

This is an advanced course. We recommend taking Clear Touch 201 - Lessons or Clear Touch 201 Activities before this session. This session does include work time. Please come with an idea of the content you would like to focus on to make the most of your time with us.

In this course, geared toward classroom teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn how to create and assign robust activities and lessons in Snowflake. Learn how to take engagement with Clear Touch Snowflake to the next level in your classroom, no matter the grade level or content. After the session, participants will be able to integrate Snowflake tools and activities into their classroom content.

Clear Touch - Learning Lab

In this course, geared toward all content and grade level teachers and instructional staff, participants will learn how to customize and integrate Clear Touch panels for their specific classroom needs in a small group setting. Participants will work with our Clear Touch trainer to explore and create lesson resources and learn how to make the panel features work for them. After the session, participants will be able to create and edit materials for their Clear Touch panel and navigate their boards.

Para Tech Academy: Excel Basics

In this course, geared toward paraprofessional staff members, participants will learn how to navigate and create spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel. Participants will explore various platform features that will increase efficiency when using Excel. After the session, participants will be able to use keyboard shortcuts and other built in features to efficiently create and use Excel.

Para Tech Academy: Excel Beyond The Basics

This is an advanced course. We recommend taking Para Tech Academy: Excel Basics if you have limited experience with the Excel program.

In this course, geared toward paraprofessionals and support staff, participants will learn how to use tools and functions in Microsoft Excel. Participants will explore various platform features that will increase efficiency when using Excel. After the session, participants will be able to use formulas, functions, and other keyboard shortcuts to efficiently create documents and use Excel.

Para Tech Academy: Schoology 101

In this course, geared toward paraprofessional staff members, participants will learn how to access and navigate Schoology. After the session, participants will be able to edit their Schoology profile and find Schoology messages, dashboard, and calendar.

Para Tech Academy: iPad Basics

In this course, geared toward paraprofessionals who have little to no experience using an iPad, participants will learn about the basic parts and features of the device. Participants will gain hands-on experience using basic features and simple apps on the iPad. After the session, participants will be able to comfortably use foundational apps and features of the iPad in an instructional setting.

Para Tech Academy: Google Drive and Office 365 101

In this course, geared toward paraprofessional staff members, participants will learn how to access their district Google Drive and Office 365 accounts and explore the tools available in each.. After the session, participants will be able to use the basic tools available to them in Google Drive and Office 365.

Para Tech Academy: Google Drive and Office 365 201

This course is a follow up to Para Tech Academy for Google Drive and Office 365 101.

In this course, geared toward paraprofessional staff members who have completed Google Drive and Office 365 101, participants will learn how to use Google Forms and Microsoft Sway, along with how to connect Office 365 and Google to Schoology. After the session, participants will be able to connect Google and Microsoft resources with Schoology. In addition, they will be able to create simple digital forms and create Sway presentations.

Destiny: Curating Collections

This course designed for librarians, teachers and library paraprofessionals, participants will learn how to create collections in Destiny, the library management system. Participants will have time to create and curate Destiny collections during the session. After the session, participants will be able to create and curate Destiny collections.

Destiny Library Manager for Library Paraprofessionals

In this course, geared toward library paraprofessionals, participants will learn how to find solutions to frequently asked Destiny related questions, go over Destiny How-To's and have guided hands-on practice of frequent library tasks. It will be helpful for participants to bring a couple of books and a barcode scanner as participants will have time to practice many daily tasks. After the session, participants will be able to troubleshoot Destiny issues and utilize the library management system in their campus library. This session will be face to face.

Destiny Resource Manager for Librarians, Library Paraprofessionals, and Technology Paraprofessionals

In this course, geared toward librarians, library and technology paraprofessionals, participants will learn how to find solutions to frequently asked Destiny related questions, go over Destiny How-To's and have guided hands-on practice of frequent resource manager tasks.
