The kick-off meeting for the AGRO-CIRN project took place in Vairão on 30 October 2025, with Vera Homem and Nuno Ratola in attendance. Coordinated by GreenUPorto, the project involves a team of over 20 researchers from the following U.Porto research units: GreenUPorto, CIQUP (Faculty of Sciences), LEPABE and LSRE-LCM (both Faculty of Engineering) and i2ADS (Faculty of Fine Arts).
Over the next two years, AGRO-CIRN will adopt a circular economy approach to promote the recycling of soilless substrates that are relevant to the Entre-Douro-e-Minho region. The value of these materials lies in their application for soil carbon sequestration and, at the end of their life cycle, for the remediation of contaminated sites.
In the latest FCT call, the TrEnDY team achieved a 100% success rate, being awarded funding for three IC&DT projects as the lead partner, totaling approximately €0.75 million over the next three years. Team members are also involved in two additional projects as partners.
