The kick-off meeting for the AGRO-CIRN project took place in Vairão on 30 October 2025, with Vera Homem and Nuno Ratola in attendance. Coordinated by GreenUPorto, the project involves a team of over 20 researchers from the following U.Porto research units: GreenUPorto, CIQUP (Faculty of Sciences), LEPABE and LSRE-LCM (both Faculty of Engineering) and i2ADS (Faculty of Fine Arts).
Over the next two years, AGRO-CIRN will adopt a circular economy approach to promote the recycling of soilless substrates that are relevant to the Entre-Douro-e-Minho region. The value of these materials lies in their application for soil carbon sequestration and, at the end of their life cycle, for the remediation of contaminated sites.
