Open data is essential for promoting transparency, innovation, and research. By making datasets accessible, organizations and governments enable individuals, researchers, and businesses to analyze, use, and share information for various purposes, from scientific discoveries to policy-making and community engagement.
The rising prevalence of obesity among young people in the European Union (EU) presents significant health, social, and economic challenges. This alarming trend affects not only the current generation but also has long-term implications for public health and healthcare systems.
Our research, part of the European Union-funded project "Inclusive Social Education Fit for a Healthy Lifestyle: Preventing Obesity in Young Adults" (EDU-FIT), focuses on analyzing data related to obesity. We utilize open data from the European statistics portal Eurostat, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Croatian Institute of Public Health. Additionally, our research includes pilot studies on the student population, exploring sensitive communication regarding obesity terminology in everyday and healthcare settings.
The aim of EDU-FIT is to mitigate the obesity problem and raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle in the university setting. Through this project, we hope to contribute to better health outcomes in digital environment and foster a culture of wellness among young adults.
