ERASMUS+ EDU-FIT DAY: NEW KNOWLEDGE, UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES, AND BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES
The international interdisciplinary Erasmus+ EDU-FIT project, with its full title INCLUSIVE SOCIAL EDUCATION FIT FOR HEALTHY LIFE-STYLE - PREVENTING OBESITY IN YOUNG ADULTS, is nearing its halfway point. As some project results are already available, the research team decided to present them during a special EDU-FIT Day. Project leader Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natalia Kaloh Vid presented the project, its goals, and some interesting facts to nearly 70 participants. Along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jasna Potočnik Topler and Professor Dr. Vlasta Kučiš, she discussed the importance of language, translation, and the role of storytelling. Good stories, after all, can encourage better habits and reflection on how to live healthier. Of course, everything is easier with a smile, so the professors highlighted the role of humour and included engaging visual materials. This was followed by a round table where project team members emphasized many positive effects of Erasmus+ projects. The afternoon activities were moved outdoors to the Rogatec Open-Air Museum. There, participants not only explored the heritage but also tasted, smelled, and tried their hand at baking bread and walking on stilts. The participants also attended workshops on how to prepare healthy meal for locally produced, ecological ingredients and how to calculate calories in your meal. The EDU-FIT day concluded with an exciting surprise ascent to the Kristal Observation Tower in Rogaška Slatina, where participants enjoyed the views from the highest building in Slovenia and reflected on their experience. As often happens, everything seems crystal clear from above, but reality awaits when we come back down, reminding us that effort and work are necessary, even for healthy lifestyle habits and obesity prevention.
The full-day event successfully combined the promotion of healthy habits with cultural experiences, aligning with the goals of the EDU-FIT project and Erasmus+ efforts to encourage a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle. Project collaborators from Slovenia (including Prof. Dr. Dušanka Mičetić Turk from the Faculty of Medicine), Croatia, Portugal, Slovakia, and Norway are intensively developing a curriculum module that will educate students about a healthy lifestyle through tailored content and methods. Here’s to many more beautiful and good stories to come.
