In an effort to expand our conversations about careers we are connecting postdocs with companies that hire postdocs and PhDs. As such, thanks to our partnership with the Stuckert Career Center, we invited recruiters and scientists from regional companies to attend the symposium. Take a moment to seek them out and learn, first-hand, what their companies are like, and what opportunities they currently have.
Dr. Gail Pyne-Geithman graduated with a BSc (Hons) jn Biochemistry from University College, London, and then completed her doctoral work in cerebrovascular biochemistry and physiology at the University of Oxford. Gail then came to Cincinnati, a leading stroke research center, for postdoctoral training. She then transitioned to Assistant professor of Neurology, and then moved to an Associate Professor position in the Department of Neurosurgery, where she was Director of the Neurovascular Research Laboratory. Gail shifted careers in 2014 and took a role as a Medical and Scientific Writer in the Department of Radiology at Cincinnati Children’s. Gail is now passionate about bringing the most talented researchers to the Cincinnati Children’s family. She moves to mentor, teach and coach and uses her experience to work closely with faculty to find quality postdoctoral fellows they are looking for. When she is not working, Gail enjoys spending time in nature with her US Navy Veteran husband Randy and children, David and Ruth, and loves to read, knit, crochet and embroider.
Kay is a Talent Acquisition Specialist at Medpace since October 2021. In her role, Kay supports strategic hiring efforts across Medpace’s Clinical Operations and Clinical Trial Management groups. Medpace is seeking new and upcoming PhD graduates or Postdoctoral Researchers that are interested in transitioning from academia to clinical trials to accelerate the development of safe and effective medical therapeutics.

Dr. Abbie Wood serves as the Assistant Director for Graduate and Professional Student Career Support in the Stuckert Career Center at UK. In her role, she assists all UK graduate and professional students in all aspects of their career and professional development. She provides career counseling, resume/CV and cover letter assistance, mock interviews, networking advice, job search strategies, and more. Abbie holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and loves getting to support graduate students plan and prepare for a job they love.
Tori Summey serves as the Associate Director of Employer Engagement at the University of Kentucky Stuckert Career Center, where she leads efforts to connect students with full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities through employer partnerships. She holds a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma State University, an M.S. in Community and Leadership Development from the University of Kentucky, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Kentucky.
Kendra Stenzel, Ph.D., MBA is the Director of Innovation Talent Development where she works closely with the next generation of innovation, commercialization, and entrepreneurial leaders by providing educational and experiential training opportunities to complement their current studies. She also works to educate researchers on campus about how to frame their research outcomes to ultimately impact the populations they seek to serve. Prior to this, she was Commercialization Manager for Medical Devices, Program Manager for the XLeratorNetwork, and Project Manager for the Kentucky Network for Innovation and Commercialization (KYNETIC). She earned her bachelor's degree in forensic science from Eastern Kentucky University, her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Kentucky, and just completed her Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship from UK. When she's not working with innovators, you can typically find her at concerts or practicing taekwondo.
Will earned his undergraduate degree in history at Florida State University and his master's in Latin American studies at the University of Florida. He is currently finishing a PhD at Emory University. His anthropology dissertation project focuses on urban mobility, development, and displacement in Perú. During his graduate studies, Will also taught anthropology courses, provided writing support at the Emory University writing center, coordinated academic conferences, and worked with digital library collections. Finally, he has published original peer-reviewed research with funding support from Fulbright and the National Science Foundation. Will's primary responsibilities at PDO include NIH Institutes and Centers, private foundations, and awards and honorifics.
Halley earned a Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan. She brings extensive knowledge of the information lifecycle, scholarly research and publishing, and information literacy with a background in academic librarianship as a business subject specialist. Prior to joining the Proposal Development Office, she held positions at the University of Michigan, the University of Colorado-Boulder, and most recently the University of Virginia. She guided faculty and students on research funding, information dissemination, research support, and guidance on data management. Halley’s primary agency responsibilities focus on education, public health – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Health Resources and Services Administration – and library services, including the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Marc K. Invergo has worked at the University of Kentucky since 2004, and is currently the J-1 Scholar Advisor. As Scholar Advisor, he has worked extensively with issues related to Research Scholars, Short Term Scholars, Professors, Specialists and Student Interns. Previously he had worked with the Summer Work Travel program and J-1 Students. He's attended national and regional conferences and presented at four of them; three as part of a panel related to J Scholar issues, and the other as the main presenter in the discussion of the ease of using the J Specialist category. He finds the ever changing world of immigration regulations both challenging and rewarding. He has also worked with a NAFSA group to review the initial online NAFSA manual. He is currently part of the Trainer Corps program. Marc has a Bachelor's in Business from Loyola University in Chicago and a Master's from Northeastern in Chicago.
David is a UK alum, completing a master’s degree in counseling psychology in 2022. He has a background in community organizing and student-centered programming to help people of all identities find a sense of belonging. David serves the KY community as a Well-Being Champion, helping to instill a culture of well-being across campus.
Helene Gold is the STEM Librarian at UK Libraries. She holds an MLS from SUNY Albany and an MEd (Instructional Technology) from the University of South Florida. She specializes in Information Literacy curriculum design, instruction, and assessment, STEM librarianship, instructional technology and online learning, and student engagement and outreach. She has published and presented on topics such as library leadership challenges, developing information literacy curriculum for first-year STEM students, web design/development, and using various EdTech tools and platforms. When she's not welcoming students into the scholarly conversation and supporting researchers, she enjoys baking, birding, and nature wandering.
