Dear LAs,
In the LA program, we like to give you all flexibility in number of units, which is why we need to use PTEs to help you get the units you want in the appropriate department. We want to remind you all the LA duties you committed to are taken into consideration for your Final Grade.
To get credit, you need to officially enroll in your appropriately assigned 192 course(s). Do so before Wk3 Friday at 5:00 PM to avoid enrollment fee(s) by Registrar. Contact Registrar with questions about fees; the LA Program is not responsible for campus-wide enrollment fees, we don't handle that.
We cannot guarantee getting PTE numbers on time to those who do not read and follow instructions. Read and follow the instructions below to register without a fee and to avoid any issues while enrolling!
Email instructors.laprogram@gmail.com only if an issue persists even after following instructions. Include a screenshot and clearly describe what you already tried.
If you submitted your Weekly Commitment Form by Wk2 Sunday (it was due Wk1 Friday), then this PTE spreadsheet ("Time Commitment - check this" will give you the information you need to register:
Find the 192 course(s) and associated yellow-highlighted PTE numbers in your row.
Sign up for the correct section (letter and number). AOS/CHEM/MATH/PhySci/PHYS 192PTEs – folks SELECT the correct number of units before enrolling. (Some LAs did the default of 2 units despite deserving 4 units.)
DO NOT UNENROLL; YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE PTE AGAIN. If you're in a variable course and realize you selected the wrong units look around myUCLA study list or class planner and there should be an option to adjust your units.
To get full credit, sign up for ALL 192s indicated. (Some LAs forget to sign up for the second 192 and lose that credit.)
If you are participating in Queerspace, scroll to the right of your row. Under column labeled "4", you will see those hours accounted for as part of your LA Duties.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY --> If you don't see a 192 or PTE number, this means you did not submit your weekly time commitment before Saturday midnight OR there was some discrepancy in your units or hours (indicated in the red cell of the purple column "Do you need to adjust hours or units to match?"); so just follow the instructions below. Rest assured, we'll do another round of PTE numbers every day or two for any folks who only get to submit the time commitment Monday evening!
Here are the instructions:
If you didn't already submit your weekly commitment, follow the instructions in the Bruin Learn Time Commitment Form assignment: Double-check that your hours add up to three times the number of units you want, to avoid further delays.
If you already submitted the form, and the column with the purple box "Do you need to adjust hours or units to match?" doesn't say "Looks good!", adjust hours based on the comment provided in the red cell in your row using your google forms receipt. Make sure that column says "Looks good!". Red cells in your row will help you figure out what to edit in your google form reciept.
If you do this after Wk3 Tuesday, it may not get updated in time (by Wk3 Friday), and you'll need to pay a fee
If you are exceeding your unit cap, please contact your respective department counselor or Academic Advising Counselor.
Having a problem using your PTE number to sign up? Carefully check the FAQs below, and if they don't help, screenshot the error and send an email to instructors.laprogram@gmail.com, indicating the units you need, the 192's and PTE's you were given, and a screenshot of the error.
FAQs
Why don't I see a PTE number by my name? That is probably because you had not yet correctly indicated your time commitment when these were assigned. If so, follow the instructions above for "If you don't see a 192 or PTE number".
I tried using my PTE number, and it didn't work - what should I do next? Double-check that it is your PTE number (on your row) and that you signed up for the correct section letter (Course) and number (seminar).
For example, you can't use a PTE number for LS192B-1 (Course LS192B seminar 1) to enroll in LS192B-2 (Course LS192B seminar 2) or LS192C-1 (Course LS192B seminar 2).
If that is all correct, take a screenshot of the error and send an email to instructors.laprogram@gmail.com
What if I need to adjust my units and/or time commitment? Use your google form receipt to edit responses so they match the units you want.
Communicate with your Log/Merged head first! So they're aware of and approve any duty changes.
If in a variable unit 192 (Chem or Physics 192), you should be able to use myUCLA to change units.
If in LS or CS192, send an email to instructors, so that they can adjust your PTE number, & CC your Log/Merged Head to confirm proof of their approval.
We can't guarantee they will get to it before Wk 3 Friday 5:00 PM, but will try!
Is the 192 class time listed on the official schedule real? No, it is just a placeholder to offer the course, you can ignore that time when registering for the 192.
I need to petition for more units - how do I do that? If you are exceeding your unit cap, please contact your respective department counselor or Academic Advising Counselor. You can also see PDT instructions here for exceeding units. These were written before COVID, so let us know if they don't work and you've received updated instructions!
Earning CS credit but why do I get my remaining units in LS? If you are enrolled in a course earning you CS credit, the max we are able to give is up to 3 units of CS for New LAs (Seminar CS192A – 1 unit and CS192 – 2 units) and 2 units of CS for Returners (CS192). So for folks who wish to earn 3 or 4 units, you are currently provided an LS192E-1 (1 unit) or LS192D-1 (2 units) to fulfill the rest of the units.
Concerns about fees. The LA Program does not handle or is involved in any form of enrollment fees. Please contact the registrar office for any concerns about enrollment fees.
Be sure to enroll by Friday 5:00 PM PDT of Week 3 to avoid any late fees!
Best,
Shanna and the LA instructional team
