IMPORTANT:
Grades for courses in the partner university programs may be posted to your SU transcript later than courses taken at the Center so you should ensure that this timing will not adversely affect you academically or in terms of financial aid awarding.
At Syracuse University, all work for registered classes must be completed on or before the degree certification date.
If you are graduating, you should seek advice from your home college regarding your degree certification date and also be certain you are aware of any remaining degree requirements and how courses abroad will fulfill those requirements.
French Language Institute (IIEF), Université de Strasbourg (Unistra) and Sciences Po Strasbourg
If you have been admitted to one of the French partner university programs, you still need to complete and upload your Course Preference Form (CPF) for any courses offered at the Strasbourg Center in which you are interested.
Fulfill your language requirement by taking French language instruction OR content courses taught in French (EX: political science, history, math, French literature, etc.) at the local university.
Registration for all partner university programs is completed in Strasbourg, once students have had an opportunity to attend classes.
You will not be able to indicate specific partner university courses on your CPF.
For students accepted to the French Language Institute (Institut International d’Etudes Françaises):
Plan to register for a minimum of 12-credits to make a full schedule of classes from those offered at the Strasbourg Center, including the appropriate French class. Complete your CPF with this tentative plan.
Upon arrival in Strasbourg, you will take the French placement exam at the IIEF and be placed into the required French-language core class (6 credits) based on your exam results.
Additional classes at IIEF (on topics such as music, popular culture, grammar revision) may also be selected at this time (frequently awarded 1 credit per class). Note that IIEF classes can take place on Fridays, which is generally not the case at the Center.
Once you receive your exam results, you will discuss options with Strasbourg Center staff and choose between the two.
If you proceed with courses at IIEF, you'll make schedule adjustments for the Center course(s) that you'd like to drop and IIEF courses to add.
For students accepted to the Université de Strasbourg (Unistra) and Sciences Po Strasbourg:
Directions for completing your CPF depending on your specific program:
Sciences Po-Strasbourg - When completing your CPF, under Course Selection select the generic ‘Sciences Po Strasbourg course TBD [generally 2-cr]’ as a placeholder.
Université de Strasbourg - When completing your CPF, under Course Selection select the generic ‘U of Strasbourg course TBD [generally 2-cr]’ as a placeholder.
All students - Select additional Center classes of interest (your schedule must meet the minimum of 12-credits; more if your home school has a higher credit requirement). All students will take the 1-credit CAS 200 Mapping Strasbourg which does not interfere with other class times.
The French universities publish their schedules much closer to the start of the semester, so you'll continue to work with Dr. Bart until your schedule is finalized in Strasbourg.
During the summer, you'll receive email from the Strasbourg Center and/or the partner instituion with additional instructions for enrollment. Make sure that you are checking your email and completing any secondary enrollment requirements!
