IMPORTANT:
Grades for courses in the partner university programs post to your SU transcript later than courses taken at the Center so you should ensure that this timing will not adversely affect you academically or in terms of financial aid awarding.
At Syracuse University, all work for registered classes must be completed on or before the degree certification date.
If you are graduating, you should seek advice from your home college regarding your degree certification date and also be certain you are aware of any remaining degree requirements and how courses abroad will fulfill those requirements.
Please ask questions and make no assumptions with this!
French Language Institute (IIEF), Université de Strasbourg (Unistra) and Sciences Po Strasbourg
All students will be automatically registered for CAS200.
Fulfills your French language requirement (provided at least one course is taught in French).
Enrollment for classes in partner university programs is completed in Strasbourg once students have had an opportunity to attend classes, usually about 3 weeks into the semester (add/drop deadlines are extended accordingly).
For students accepted to the French Language Institute (Institut International d’Etudes Françaises):
As a precaution, you must register a full schedule of classes (12+ credits) at the Syracuse Center, including an appropriate level French class.
Upon arrival in Strasbourg, you will take a placement exam at Le Pôle FLE-IIEF institute to be placed into the core grammar class (6 credits) appropriate to your level. NB: If your placement exam level of French is the same or lower than a course you have already completed at your home school - you may not be allowed to enroll.
Additional classes at the institute (on topics such as music, popular culture, phonetics) may also be selected at this time (frequently awarded 1 credit per class). Note that some institute classes may take place on Fridays
If you choose to complete your enrollment in one or more courses at the FLE institute you will need to drop 2-3 Syracuse Center classes as your schedule allows.
