If you cannot stay on track to graduate on time with our regular program offerings, there may be some options available.
If you believe you will not graduate on time because a degree requirement cannot be met by published Exploring Central Europe program offerings, please follow this process:
Confirm with your academic advisor that you must take a course outside of published course offerings. Have the advisor directly contact the Central Europe program Academic Team BEFORE May 8 to document your need.
Submit your special course request via your Course Preference Form (CPF) no later than the deadline of May 8. (See more about submitting your CPF in STEP FOUR.)
Under CPF question #16, choose "Yes, I have a special course request."
In CPF question #16a, explain your academic need. Then indicate which of the three options explained below you intend to use to meet the need.
Consider your options to complete this degree requirement, explained below. If choosing Option A or Option B, complete and submit the additional necessary linked form by May 15. Be aware that enrollment in classes outside regular program offerings is not guaranteed and is offered at the discretion of the Program Director.
Submit your CPF by May 8. Then request the relevant syllabus and discuss course content with your academic advisor.
Visiting students, submit the syllabus for approval for appropriate transfer credit per your home institution's guidelines.
Matriculated Syracuse University students, work with your academic advisor (and any relevant Syracuse academic department) to complete a Petition to Faculty form requesting that the Central Europe course in question be considered to meet your degree requirement. Gather the necessary signatures. Submit the completed Petition to Faculty and the course syllabus no later than May 15 to your home school or college and the Central Europe program Academic Team.
If you must earn credit in a particular subject this fall not among our regular course offerings, you may consider an independent research project. This option is contingent on local university schedules and faculty availability, and therefore it cannot be guaranteed.
Submit your CPF by May 8, then complete a formal Proposal for Independent Study Course and gather the necessary signatures. Submit the completed proposal no later than May 15 to your home school or college and the Central Europe program Academic Team.
It may be possible to make special arrangements at a Wroclaw institution to attend an appropriate class to meet your requirement. This option is contingent on local university schedules and faculty availability, and therefore it cannot be guaranteed.
Submit your CPF by May 8. Upon receiving your request via the CPF, our office will work with local staff in Wroclaw to evaluate your need and whether one of our partner Wroclaw institutions has the capacity to meet it.
