Santiago Internships
Fall internships in Santiago are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. An internship in Santiago allows you to apply classroom lessons to real work situations, explore career options, and develop professional skills, all while earning academic credit. Students can gain valuable international work experience that will distinguish you among your peers and future job applicants. Our on-site Santiago staff will work with you to find the placement that best suits your interests and qualifications.

Placements at specific businesses or organizations cannot be guaranteed.
Placements are not confirmed until you complete the interview process.
How the internship appears on your transcript depends on your learning objectives, the content and focus of work assignments, the background of your faculty sponsor, and any specific requirements of your home/college school. Many internships are registered under a general subject prefix of IPA (International Internship Abroad).
Undergraduates:
For each credit earned, you must fulfill a minimum of 45 hours of work at the placement.
The typical placement requires advanced Spanish language proficiency and about 2.5 free days in your schedule.
A 3-credit internship requires a minimum of 15 hours per week at the placement for a total of 135 hours.
Graduate Students:
For each credit earned, you must fulfill a minimum of 83 hours of work at the placement.
A 3-credit internship requires a minimum total of 250 hours.
To Apply
Review this additional information; then complete the Internship Request Form found in your OrangeAbroad portal within 10 days of your acceptance to the program, and no later than May 15 (whichever is earlier).
Consult with your home school/college before undertaking an internship since there may be specific rules, requirements, and/or restrictions with regard to internship credit.
If successfully placed in an internship, once in Santiago you will complete and submit an Internship Proposal which must be reviewed and approved by the relevant academic department at Syracuse University. Matriculated SU students also need the approval of their home school or college.
