FAS 428 Final Deliverable
The goal of this study is to examine a series of seven portraits to understand how Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth II used dress to command power and prove their legitimacy as female rulers. This study explores the varying use of power symbols in relation to the specific social contexts of each of these rulers. The importance of this study lies in the legacy that these portraits leave for the interpretation of dress in our current female rulers. In this website, you will find my conclusions regarding each portrait's use of power symbols with access to my full content analysis if you wish to seek further information.
