Whether we realize it or not, the power symbols these women instilled have lingered across generations and trickled into Western culture. For instance, the multi-billion dollar company known as ‘Victoria’s Secret’ was named after the infamous Queen Victoria and the sophistication of clothing during the Victorian Era, most of which was inspired by Queen Victoria herself. Moreover, the powerful connotations of pearls that were seen throughout the Royal Family have been adopted in First Ladies across the US from Martha Washington all the way to Michelle Obama. Females in political positions will continue to use power symbols in their dress, unconsciously paying tribute to their female counterparts and the historical use of dress to command sociopolitical power.
