School of Chemical Engineering

INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING, SURANAREE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

We introduce the research laboratory of the School of Chemical Engineering.

Our current research interests cover: (1) Crystallization from solution. We will pay special attentions in the crystallization of biomolecules (e.g., sugar, amino acid, and protein), active pharmaceutical ingredients, polymorphic compounds, drug coating by crystallization, and encapsulation of bioproducts by crystallization. (2) CFD in Chemical Engineering and Biochemical Engineering equipment. (3) Production of biochemical products from agricultural materials (e.g., amino acids, sugar).

Our research is focused on computational material modeling together with experimental, with an emphasis on nanoporous and polymeric materials, geared towards addressing a range of engineering applications in the domains of energy, environmental sustainability, and catalysis. These applications include carbon capture and conversion, gas storage, water treatment, and ion-battery. The overall objective of our research is to offer molecular-level insights to gain a deeper understanding of key physical and chemical processes. This approach aims to integrate physical science, chemistry, and engineering, ultimately facilitating the rational design of engineer materials.

This research group is aimed to understand the phenomena and unit operations related to sugar and its production processes by using chemical engineering knowledge with the goals to improve process efficiency and to reduce the undesired occurrences during production, transportation, storage and its entire supply chain. The research topics include: Pulsed bed adsorber for colorant removal, caking of sugar during transportation & storage,  process simulation of evaporators and other unit operations, and development of colors during storage.
