As the sun slowly rises, the crowds gradually become lively as they stroll leisurely along the quiet streets of the market. This is Jieyun Temple, located on Ximen Street in Banqiao District. If you are looking for a location rich in historical significance and religious value, you should visit here in person.
Beautiful relief sculptures surround Banqiao Jieyun Temple, and the elegant roof lines complement the majestic depiction of the holy dragons. In addition, the two stone lions standing at the door have popped eyes and flat noses. Their presence is to guard this temple better. Walking down the main hall, you will see a splendid Guanyin statue. Furthermore, the Dingguang Ancient Buddha is venerated on the left-hand side. Guanyin enshrined in the temple originates from Buddhism. This God was originally a male. As the belief of Guanyin was getting deeply rooted in people’s hearts, it gradually transformed into a goddess. The Ding Guang Ancient Buddha on the left is a belief brought by the Hakka people from Zhangzhou and Tingzhou. After an upper-class Lin family and Hu Family agreed to exchange lands, they brought their original belief, the Dingguang Ancient Buddha, to Jieyun Temple.
As you roam in the temple, you might smell different scents. Maybe it is from incense people holding or food from the nearby market. Why not just stop a little bit to enjoy one of the traditional snacks in Taiwan-Ba Wan(肉圓) When you take a bite, you will find how elastic it is This traditional dish reminded people of old times. Fan Wan-Ju created Ba Wan in the Beidou district, Changhua County. Since a severe flood hit at that time, Fan made this dish to assist the victims. During its heyday, there were over 20 Ba Wanshops in Beidou Soon, Beidou Ba Wan was spread nationwide. People in different areas created different cooking methods, so other flavored Ba Wan is everywhere now.
