Post-Secondary

Students who are under the Committee on Special Education (CSE) will need to advocate for themselves after high school at their respective college or trade school. The laws are different in the adult world as students move from the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It is up to the student to make their post-secondary school aware that they have an IEP and need their testing accommodations. The way they go about this is by connecting with the Disabilities Services at their school. Sometimes, the level of support a college or trade school provides a student may be the deciding factor when choosing which school he or she will attend. This is an important part of transition planning for students and families.
