Mr. Duncan
Students build a foundation of the elements and principles of art, as well as art history and critical thinking and planning skills. Students create original works of art using a variety of media. This class is an introductory course and is needed in order to take Drawing and Painting. Students participate in the following studio lessons:
Drawing – Design, Proportion, Perspective, Value/Shading, Grid Enlargement
Painting – Watercolor, Introduction to color theory

The Drawing and Painting Course is a more thorough study of the techniques used in Intro to Art. Students gain experience using a variety of wet and dry media. Emphasis is placed on personal expression and an understanding of artistic styles and techniques. Students explore the following mediums and assignments:
Charcoal
Graphite
Pastel – chalk and oil
Watercolor
Acrylic

Intro to 3-D Design course involves creating sculptural art forms by modeling, carving, and assembling materials. Students use a multitude of mediums and objects to learn the process of designing 3-dimensionally, which includes:
Paper-Mache, Plaster
Cardboard, Paper folding
Fibers, wire, cloth
Mask making

Ceramics is designed to give students a basic foundation in the art of pottery. Creating form is emphasized in this culturally rich class. Through planning and executing the design process the students learn the following techniques:
Pinch Method
Coil Construction
Slab Construction
Glazing

Students learn about the camera and photographic digital media, composition and taking and editing photographs. Students will explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design and Digital Media and maintain a digital portfolio. 2021-22 Intro to Digital Photography Portfolio
Mrs. Melson - 2nd Semester (Prerequisite: Intro to Digital Photography)
Students learn about the camera and photographic digital media, composition and taking and editing photographs. Students will explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design and Digital Media and maintain a digital portfolio. After completing both courses, students should have a portfolio with which to apply to the Photography Magnet at RHS.
