Preparing for Your Computer Science Interview
Thank you for applying to the Richardson High School Computer Science Magnet! Now that you’ve filled out your application and answered the questionnaire, it’s time for your face-to-face interview. I have a few tips for you on the day of your interview to give you a confidence boost:
Be yourself. No need to put on an act during your interview. I want to get to know you as the person you are every day. Remember: we plan on working together for four years, so let’s start getting to know each other!
Be honest. Not that I’m assuming you’d lie to me intentionally, but say things you mean and mean things you say. If you don’t know something, be honest and say that you don’t. This means you have room to grow. The Computer Science Magnet will help you learn, and we’re excited to teach!
Dress nice. First impressions matter. Look presentable at your interview. When you look good, you feel good!
Ask me a question (or two). Even though this is labeled a "magnet interview," who said the interview is one way? Interview me with questions of your own. We want to make sure if this magnet program fits your needs. If it doesn't, what would you do to change it?
Final notes for both students and parents: Please keep our discussions between us. Our interview experience is for you and your parents. Sharing the interview experience with another potential magnet student may invalidate an application and other applicants. When all magnet interviews are completed, then we may discuss our experiences.
