I teach ESL English 2 and ESL Academic Literacy Lab 2
I was born in Seoul, S. Korea, and immigrated to Ohio when I was three years old to join my adoptive family.
I learned English at a very early age by being immersed in it. No one in my little town, including my family, spoke Korean.
I love teaching English Learners because their stories and incredible resilience never cease to amaze me.
Knowing more than one language is a superpower!!!

I teach ESL World History and ESL World Geography.
I am from the Hill Country (specifically Johnson City, Texas), but I have lived a lot of my life in Lawrence, Kansas.
I attended and graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawerence, Kansas. I also taught US History, Borderland History and Modern Latin American History at the University of Kansas.
I enjoy teaching ESL because it is fun watch the student support each other with the academic material!

This is my 3rd year teaching at RHS, but my first-year teaching ESL.
I was born in the big state of Texas.
What is the purpose of the English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) Department?
The goal of English as a second language programs shall be to enable limited English proficient students to become competent in the comprehension, speaking, reading, and composition of the English language through the integrated use of second language methods. The English as a second language program shall emphasize the mastery of English language skills, as well as mathematics, science and social studies, as integral parts of the academic goals for all students to enable limited English proficient students to participate equitably in school.
Texas Administration Code §89.1201
All RISD campuses offer on-site ESL services. Elementary ESL is provided through a pull-out program, while secondary ESL courses are scheduled within the student’s daily schedule.
