This course is designed for high school seniors who have excelled in academic performance and have demonstrated leadership abilities.  Students are given the opportunity to explore specific career interests by being matched with a mentor from the business or professional community in non-paid internship training at various sites in the local community.  Students develop a project on a topic related to their career internship by using scientific methods of investigation to conduct in-depth research and present their findings to an audience that includes experts in the field.  Students must provide their own transportation to and from the internship.

This state-mandated program is designed to serve those Richardson Independent School District students who are pregnant and parenting.  The program is structured to provide students with a supportive setting in which they can continue their studies and to participate in prenatal class instruction and pregnancy related services.

Career Preparation provides opportunities for students to participate in a work-based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with business and industry employment experiences. the goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills for a changing workplace. Career Preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.
