Mission
The mission of HOSA is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience.
Purpose
The purpose of HOSA-Future Health Professionals is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science Education instructional program.
This year's HIGHLIGHTS!
Congratulations to our chapter for raising 28 PINTS of blood from our first RED CROSS blood drive!
Congratulations to Zainab Asker, Angela Vu, Kaylee Yeung, and Tracy Ngo for their work in emotional wellbeing, being ILC qualfied!
Renton HOSA was also recognized for the highest chapter growth in Washington with a 72% increase, as well as HOSA happenings!
Touch-A-Career is a career fair held at Meadow Crest Early Learning Center that exposes students (PreK-5th gr.) to numerous careers, represented by clubs, programs, and organizations of the Renton School District. Renton HOSA was invited to represent the medical field, introducing the various pathways into healthcare to young students, while answering questions and fostering interests.
Red Cross provided Renton HOSA another opportunity to help run Renton Highschool's 2nd blood drive! Our members made sure things ran smoothly as students from our school donated blood to help our community!
This year's SLC in Spokane was a new experience for many of our members, especially with Renton HOSA being recognized for the highest growth by 72%!
Our members excelled in their exams and competitions, while also networking with different chapters and engaging in numerous workshops that specialized in the many healthcare careers! The trip closed with an amazing hypnotist show that was a surprise to all of us!
Renton HOSA was invited to attend a healthcare career fair at Seattle Center. Our members gained insights to a variety of careers from many experienced healthcare professionals—A fun engaging experience while forming new connections!
Our members were also exposed to various internships, programs, and other educational opportunities to help navigate through their dream medical pathways.
On November 2nd, Renton HOSA brought 13 students to attend this year's Washington HOSA Fall Leadership Conference. Hosted at Everett Community College, students were able to engage in valuable workshops run by health professionals and state officers, while also networking with different chapters and even talking to IEC President-Elect, Ria Mohan!
This year, Renton HOSA partnered with the American Red Cross, organizing Renton High's first Blood Drive with a successful amount of 28 pints of blood, donated by the students and staff of Renton High! Our chapter was able to contribute to the community, while also observing and assisting health professionals on the job.
STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2024
At this year's ILC, we brought 19 students to attend and compete for our chapter! As well as competing, members volunteered with HOSA's Courtesy Corps and attended many informational and interactive workshops. All while getting to explore and wander about through Spokane!
UW HEALTHCARE CAREER FAIR - MARCH 2024
Every year, the University of Washington hosts a career fair of medical professions for high school students at the Seattle campus!
Renton High's Gear Up program shared this event with our chapter and we were able to attend to learn about careers beyond to our previous knowledge before in healthcare. Students had a wonderful time learning about more opportunities waiting for them after high school!
FALL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2023
On November 18th, Renton High School brought 15 members to attend Washington HOSA's Western Region Fall Leadership Conference. With such a high attendance this year for Washington, there were many chances to network and meet a bunch of new people with similar interests! Especially with workshops run by the state officers, medical professionals, and a member of the IEC- our Central Region Vice President, Tristan Rothrum!
VACCINE CLINIC VOLUNTEERING (OCT 2023)
In October, our chapter collaborated with local health vaccine distributors such as Safeway and CVS to volunteer to organize vaccine clinics at Renton High School and Dimmitt Middle School. Members dedicated multiple days to guide, support, and run the clinic for those coming to receive the COVID-19 and Flu vaccines.
CTSO JAM (OCT 2023)
On October 28th, 3 members representing our HOSA chapter attended Hazen's district event, the CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organizations) JAM! Here, members attended interactive workshops, reunited with other students within our school district, and participated in the mock competition.
Congratulations to Angela Vu for placing within the Top 10 and receiving a medal for the mock competition (interview role play)!
INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2023
At the 2023 International Leadership Conference, 5 members of our club traveled to Dallas, Texas. 3 of them are international qualifiers for their respective events! During ILC, besides competing, members attended informative workshops, met with medical professionals, attended the expo to see other opportunities past high school, networked with other members across the globe, and even going to Six Flags for some extra fun!
CERT TRAINING VOLUNTEERING (JUNE 2023)
On June 3rd, our club and district were offered the opportunity to volunteer at the Renton Fire Station for the City of Renton. This event had members act as victims in the scenario for the CERT class training, and got some realistic-looking fake injuries! Member got to practice their quick thinking skills with their reactions and dialogue to guide the CERT class to treat them accurately.

STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2023
At SLC, members competed in their events and attended workshops! With so many activities to choose from besides competition time, our club had a wonderful time at SLC. Our chapter also completed the Washington HOSA photo challenge! Members even had the great honor of getting to know Washington's state officers and HOSA's International President for 2022-2023, Kartik Tyagi!
FALL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2022
FLC was an exciting time! With fun and educating workshops, along with a great opening and closing ceremony. Members had the chance to meet and connect with many new people, including Washington's state officers, as well as even a member of the IEC - our Western Region Vice President for 2022-2023, Vivian On! Our members had a great and memorable time at Hazen High School.

REDHAWK DAY (AUG 2022)
Before school officially started, our officers got together for Renton High School's Redhawk Day (orientation) to introduce HOSA to incoming freshmen and more students of Renton! It was a successful day with pages full of sign-ups from interested students!
We are excited to start up the school year again for HOSA!

From June 21st-28th, 3 members from our chapter got the amazing opportunity to go to Nashville, TN for ILC! At ILC, our chapter was recognized for HOSA Happenings!

World Mental Health Day 2021
In support of World Mental Health day, our club worked together after school to prepare nearly 100 care packages for students including inspirational notes, mints, and gum.

Although State Leadership Conference was held virtually, we still participated in the many competitions & workshops available! Our members competed in Health Science events such as Medical Terminology and Behavioral Health, and Team Events including EMT and Forensic Science.

In the Fall of 2020, our HOSA chapter worked with Bloodworks Northwest to host a blood drive at Renton High School. 70 people were registered, 64 donated, and there were 17 first-timers! In total, 192 patients were saved.
Pacific Northwest Blood Donors Needed!
On April 23, 2021, Bloodworks Northwest declared a "Code Red" alert to combat the ongoing significant blood shortage affecting local hospitals and trauma centers over the last few weeks. All regions of the U.S. are currently experiencing a shortage, so Bloodworks is asking for your help!

The Competitive Events Program is designed to motivate HOSA members and provide a system for recognizing the competencies developed by members through Health Science and Biomedical Science class instruction, related job training, and HOSA related activities.
Competitive events are designed to motivate HOSA members to improve their knowledge and skills. HOSA does not provide competition for competition's sake. HOSA provides a national competitive events program as a means of recognizing those students who are willing to pursue excellence by preparing for competition and having the determination to attend a conference and participate in a competitive event.

On a typical day, during our meetings, we have a fun day planned! We start off with fun icebreakers, then dive into discussing our past, current, and upcoming events and activities.
During competition season, meetings dive deeper into preparing for everyone's events for the state and international conferences.
For a science-based meeting, members made slime to understand the molecular bonds with polymer and how we can connect it to human bodies (the plasma).
A retired Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) came in and taught students how to listen for irregular heart beats and how to feel a pulse.
Over the past year we've...
• Had guest speakers come in to talk about their occupation & participate in Q&A sessions.
• Hosted & promoted a Blood Drive for the community
• Held multiple club bonding event nights for our members
• Participated in HOSA competition events & workshops
TAKING BLOOD PRESSURE ACTIVITY (OCT 2022)
In 2 of our meetings in October, we learned how to take blood pressure! Members partnered up and worked together as they took turns practicing how to use a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Preparing our members for competition by learning practical skills for their events!
LUNG MODEL CRAFT DAY (JAN 2022)
On our last meeting in the month of January, we made interactive lung models to better understand the respiratory system. Members used straws, balloons and plastic cups to replicate the respiratory system and understand its components and functions.
HOSA DURING THE PANDEMIC 2020-21
Due to COVID-19 and other circumstances, this year we have held all HOSA meetings over Zoom. We've done things such as virtual guest speakers and club bondings all online to continue connecting with our HOSA members!
As Washington opens vaccination to all people ages 12+ to help end this pandemic, HOSA has encouraged all members to get vaccinated & provided resources for finding a vaccination site near you. Find more information about the vaccines here!

Take a peek at what HOSA has done for club bondings!
In a joint meeting with UNICEF, both clubs came together to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends! On this day the clubs played games, partook in some group bonding, and enjoyed food brought by others!
A huge thanks to everyone who participated in this wholesome event!
END OF YEAR POTLUCK –JUNE 1ST, 2023
Our last meeting of the year! To end the year off strong and have a great start to June - our club held a potluck to celebrate an amazing year. Members honored seniors, played games and had good food. Thank you to everyone who came through with a snack or drink to share! It is a great way to end off a strong year and bond before summer.
A special last thank you to our HOSA Seniors for all of your hard work over the year and best wishes to you all! Our HOSA chapter will always support you!
One of HOSA's most memorable bonding activities was Among Us Night! This was our first virtual club bonding event.
HOSA members gather together on a weekend to play fun group games on Backyard!
From April 24th-30th, Renton HOSA joined hands with the Renton UNICEF Club for World Immunization Week to raise awareness in our school, community, and on social media, about the importance of vaccines. To celebrate our work together, we held a joint virtual game day!
