Employment

Rob West Primary School Teacher at Northwood Primary School, Darlington. I came to QE after a year at Carmel where I struggled with the huge jump from GCSE to AS Level. I wanted to study a coursework based subject. This allowed me to learn and produce my work at the same time, which definitely prepared me for what was ahead at university on a coursework and placement based course. The course also includes the health and safety aspect of sport, as well as focussing on leadership. With the end goal being teaching I found that I was able to develop confidence further when leading sessions and speaking in front of people, which is vital in teaching. I left QE and studied Primary Education with QTS at York St John university. I had a great time there. Following this I went to Australia to play cricket and coach. This developed my leadership skills further and set me up to get my job when I returned. I’ve built a fantastic relationship with staff and children. The amount the children progress on a regular basis is lovely to see. I love it when they find something tricky and then all of a sudden with a bit of extra teaching the penny drops and they are able to do the work! I honestly couldn’t recommend the course enough. The staff are fantastic and provide the support and opportunities to develop and learn as much as you would like! It really allowed me to build up my confidence as a leader and develop knowledge of topics in sport!

Richie Howe completed sport and now works as Cover Supervisor at Woodham Academy. I came to QE having attended bridging and this turned out to be the best decision that I could have made and I really progressed in Sport and Leisure under the guidance of Nancy, Marie and Paul. The course provides you a great insight into the different aspects of studying sport such as current issues or the health and safety behind sport which I had previously never studied. I think that with the course being exam free it benefited me a lot and helped prepare me for university when writing assignments. The staff on the course supported me throughout my time at QE whether it was arranging to see them outside of classroom time or assisting me in my UCAS and job applications. I left QE in 2015 and went to study at Northumbria University where I did an undergraduate degree in Sports Coaching and then went on to do a postgraduate study in Sports Psychology. I now work as a cover teacher and I am looking to do my teacher training next year.

Molly Waine - Rockcliffe Hall Golf and Gym During my time at QE I enjoyed attending my Sport and Leisure lessons due to the fact that I really enjoyed the content that was taught, and also the social side of the lessons was very enjoyable and engaging. The support the classes got through my 2 years was great from the teachers, especially for me as I was taking 3 A - levels plus maths GCSE. I would really recommend taking S&L. It's a informative and exciting course, where you are encouraged which brings out the best in you.

University

Abbie Kennedy- Physical Education -Northumbria University. I found Sport and Leisure really enjoyable, the coursework is made clear to follow and the teachers are very understanding and motivating. This subject was a perfect option for what I want to do in the future; I am going on to study Applied Sports Science and coaching at Northumbria University with hopes of becoming a PE Teacher

Naomi Downing - Physical Education - Leeds Beckett. I have recently just completed two years of double sport and leisure and cannot thank the teachers enough, their support and guidance has been amazing. I am now going to be attending Leeds Beckett university, studying physical education in the hope to become a PE teacher at a secondary school for a career. Along with this, I also teach dancing however doing sport and leisure has given me more confidence and knowledge through both of the theory and practical lessons.

Ben Thompson - Physical Education - UCFB Ethihad Stadium Studying sport and leisure for the last two years has helped me gain a thorough understanding of the sports industry as a whole, as well as helping me gain confidence and excellent communication skills when talking to larger groups of people. Sport and leisure at QE has helped provide me a stepping stone to studying PE at UCFB Etihad in September

Adam Crawford - Teacher of ICT I left QE in 2008 after studying Business Studies, and Sport double I went on to study Sport Management at Northumbria University a course which was perfect for combining the leisure and sport sectors with the business world. I studied units on human resources, event management, finance, marketing, sport development and sponsorship. After this I decided i wanted a break from studying and started working as a teaching assistant in a secondary school a job which I loved. In 2013 I decided i wanted to progress my career and become a teacher. I found the perfect course at Edge Hill University which allowed me to continue my work as a teaching assistant and learn through distance learning. I finished my training and took up a job in a local secondary school becoming head of department within two years. In 2019 I moved to my current school after the birth of my daughter. The fact that you can combine both sport and leisure in one qualification rather than two is great. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at QE and really liked my lessons with John, Julie and Nancy. I also had an excellent experience with Paul with the extracurricular activities including futsal and 11 a side captaining the C team and winning the cup. One particular highlight was our outward-bound trip to Wales which we had to organise and another group had to fundraise for. Thanks for everyone’s support and guidance at the QE it is evident of the quality of the experience I had by how vivid the memories still are 12 years later.

Josh Henderson - Leeds Beckett - Sport Coaching -My experience on Sport and Leisure fantastic, due to great teaching staff which helped me progress in sport as a whole, inside and outside the classroom. The main side of the course that stood out to me was the coaching side, which I am now progressing with and going to university to study. I would not have been able to do this without the qualifications I gained through Sport, and also Business Technical. With the help of the teaching staff I got the grade I was aiming for and better, which has gave me the confidence to go forward and challenge myself at university.

Apprenticeship

Matthew Barnwell now on an Engineering Apprenticeship. I very much enjoyed sport and leisure at QE as there was a good mix of practical and theory work to allow us to learn about all the aspects of sport, as well as work on our practical skills such as coaching and team building exercises. All the sport teachers were very friendly and supported us in the QE sport teams and always had good fun in lessons
