PCHS Virtual

We realize that many families have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and believe that their children's education could be better met through a virtual platform. While it is our intent to keep our PCHS Virtual School procedures as consistent as possible, we also realize that the unique circumstances of the 2020-2021 school year requires us to be more flexible than usual in our delivery and expectations, and decisions may need to made on a case by case basis. All PCHS Virtual instruction will continue to align with state and district standards and guidelines and will parallel with the rigors of the daily instruction delivered in the traditional classroom.

Pell City High School Virtual follows the Pell City School System calendar.

In all virtual instruction programs, students learn digitally using a web-based curriculum with highly qualified teachers. Students have full access to their teachers for each subject, whom they can correspond with via email, phone, instant message, or virtual classroom.

We offer online courses to eligible students in a variety of ways:

PCHS Virtual Instruction Programs

Full Time Virtual

PCHS Virtual is a public-school option in which a student's entire schedule is online. The environment is structured yet flexible and taught by highly qualified teachers. Virtual students will log into a digital learning management system called Schoology where they will be able to see instruction and content that is created and/or curated by our very own teachers that matches our Alabama Course of Study Standards. Work will be graded by our own teachers and feedback will be communicated. There will be weekly check-ins with students via phone or virtual conferencing software. SchoolsPLP, the virtual option mentioned by Dr. Eric Mackey (our state superintendent), will be one piece of the instruction offered through Schoology.

Co-enrolled

Students are enrolled in Pell City High School and take classes online—during or in addition to their school day. These classes may be offered through a NCAA accredited progam such as ACCESS and will meet the standards established by the Alabama State Board of Education.

Credit Recovery

Students may retake classes online where they made a poor grade. Class selection and registration is handled by the guidance counselor at Pell City High School. These courses may be offered through Odysseyware.

Note: Not all classes in Odysseyware are NCAA approved, so it is extremely important to discuss this with a guidance counselor prior to enrolling in Credit Recovery if this could be an issue.
