VISITING GEORGE

Things to know...

How to get here:

Fly direct from any major South African city to George Airport.

If you’re driving from Cape Town (435km away), you can take the N2 highway to George. From Johannesburg (1 170km away), take the N1 to Colesberg (or Beaufort West – both are interesting places to stop for a night) and then the N9 (or N12, if you go via Beaufort West) to George.

Climate:

George has an oceanic climate, with warm summers, and a mild to chilly winter. For the duration of the conference, during the month of April, South Africa is starting to move into autumn and the average temperature for George is 22C  during the day and drops to an average low of 15C in the evenings.

What to pack:

Never forget your camera and walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen...and to ensure you keep warm, it is advisable to pack some warm and waterproof clothing.

Things to do:

George has so much to offer from golfing, wine tours at Herold Wines, and birding tours to historical and township tours. Apart from this, if one would like to explore the surrounding areas of George, one can always visit The Garden Route National Park, go canoeing the waterways around Wilderness, do some whale and dolphin watching along the coast, visit the Secret Elephants Forest Experience in the Knysna Forest, and for the more adventurous individuals, the canopy tours at Tsitsikamma is also an option, or even black-water tubing at Storms River. Apart from this, there is even ziplining and bungee jumping at Bloukrans Bridge for the daredevils.
