Global Education

English Conversation Class

We have two native English teachers who provide English conversation lessons once or twice a week for our second grade and third grade students, both in junior and senior high school.

School Speech & Presentation Contests

Junshin Junior High School conducts an annual recitation and speech contest in July. First and second graders memorise a short story to recite in the contest. Third graders write and give a speech about their future dream or current passion.

In 2023, Junshin Girls' High School began what will be an annual presentation contest in March for senior high first graders!

Extensive Reading

Our school has a special computer room, the CALL room, where there are hundreds of English books on display. These are divided according to level of difficulty, so students can enjoy reading whatever they like. All students visit the CALL room for one hour every week to do extensive reading. Some of our newly ordered book series include "Harry Potter" and "The Chronicles of Narnia!"

Tomodachi Project

Tomodachi Project is our international, bi-monthly, collaborative series of events, where Nagasaki University international students and Junshin students come together to share experiences, learn about each other's cultures, and practice speaking in English in a natural setting.

In 2023, we studied Kenyan culture, held a Peace Global workshop, made and enjoyed ohagi, wrote Halloween picture books for kindergarteners, tried Japanese calligraphy, and more.

In 2024, we plan to hold brand new, fun events for high school and university students to enjoy together!

Global Workshop

As part of our international education, we hold global workshops, which are 2 to 2.5-hour English discussion sessions between Junshin students, foreign exchange university students, students of other high schools nearby, and English teachers. Past discussion topics include positive thinking, mental health, improving Nagasaki as a city, and global citizenship.

Homestay Programs

Though it has taken some years to restart our international exchange programs, it is our great pleasure to announce that during the tail end of this school year (2023-2024), eight junior high and senior high students will be visiting Singapore for a week-long homestay program!

In the coming school year (2024-2025), we will also be restarting our student exchange program with our sister school in Busan, South Korea.
