Role of Technology in Personalized Learning

My first-grade students struggled with knowing how to do their Must Dos/May Dos at the beginning of the year. Students were out of their seats. They were chatty. The biggest problem seemed to be that they didn't really understand how do each activity. By creating a "Choice Board" on a Google Slide, students were excited immediately. We talked everyday about the order of their Must Dos/May Dos and the activities were visually represented with a Mustard (Must-Do)/Ketchup (Catch Up!)/Pickles (Pick One) icons. Activities were also numbered which helped students navigate from 1 to 4 in their activities. Once students logged on and put on their headphones, they were engaged in their learning. Students used the links to complete their Imagine Learning requirement, activities in Wonders for spelling, high-frequency words, and other language arts skills, and then they moved to "Explore the classroom". This was their favorite part! Through these slides, students developed self-directed learning and autonomy. (CSTP 1.4)
