CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR
TEACHER EDUCATION
The College of Education (CED) was established in 1985 and initially operated in a modest Amakan building located behind the College of Engineering. It was officially created through the MSU Reorganization Plan, as approved by BOR Resolution No. 18, series of 1984 and Special Order No. 885. This formation merged three former units: the School of Industrial Education, the School of Physical Education, and the Developmental High School, now known as the Integrated Developmental School (IDS), which functions as the college’s laboratory school.
Since its establishment, CED has expanded into five academic departments: the Department of Home Technology Education (DHTE), Department of Science and Mathematics Education (DSME), Department of Industrial Technology Education (DITE), Department of Physical Education (DPE), and Department of Professional Education (DPRE). These departments offer a variety of specializations under the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIED) programs.
In addition to undergraduate offerings, CED provides graduate-level programs such as the Master of Science in Education (MSciEd) with majors in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and General Science; Master of Science in Physical Education (MSPE); and the Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education, major in Chemistry.
CED was designated as a Center of Excellence for Teacher Education by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in 2010 and received the CHED Outstanding Higher Education Institution Extension Program Award for Region 10 in the same year. It has also undergone accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), with various programs attaining Level 2 and Level 3 status.
Notably, CED has consistently ranked among the top performing institutions in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), earning national and regional distinctions in both elementary and secondary levels.
Moreover, CED serves as an ICT hub for Mindanao and has formed strong partnerships with key institutions such as Intel Philippines, FIT-ED, DepEd, PAFTE, UNESCO Bangkok, and others. It has been entrusted with national projects including the Accelerated Teacher Education Program (ATEP), World Links Project, Intel Teach Training Hub, and several research and development initiatives.
These milestones are a testament to the collective dedication of CED’s faculty, staff, students, and administration, all of whom have contributed to the fulfillment of the college’s vision of academic excellence and leadership in teacher education.
A center of excellence in teacher education committed to the holistic development of man and society.
To produce highly competent teachers who will provide leadership in various disciplines through quality instruction, research and extension, to enable them to meet the demands of their social environment and its diverse cultures, thus making them productive agents of change in response to the country’s quest for global competitiveness.
