We are pleased to welcome you to our e-portfolio! As aspiring Biology educators, our mission is to inspire, educate, and cultivate learners with strong values, preparing them for life and contributing to nation-building. Nurtured by the esteemed College of Education (CED) at Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), a recognized Center of Excellence in Teacher Education, we are committed to addressing the evolving needs of our education system. Our e-portfolio serves as a comprehensive collection, showcasing our personal information, our academic journey within the Department of Science and Education, and the outputs we’ve completed in CPE107 TTL-1 throughout the semester. Here, you will also find our teaching philosophy, which reflects our values and approach to education, as well as our contact information. We strive for excellence not only in the life sciences but in all areas of learning, dedicating ourselves to fostering future leaders and lifelong learners.
I am a 20-year-old second-year BSEd Biology student. My journey with science began early, driven by my deep love for pets and my childhood ambition to become a veterinarian. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to be part of an advanced class in elementary school, my fascination with science never wavered. I often thought I would never be an academic achiever because I didn’t receive an honorable dismissal in elementary. However, during my high school years, my academic journey took a turn. I began to believe in my academic potential when teachers started recognizing my strengths in quizzes, exams, oral recitations, and craftsmanship in various projects. This shift was significant for me, demonstrating that growth and improvement were always possible. It marked a turning point in my journey, and despite my earlier challenges, I started to have more confidence in my own abilities.
My path led me to Lapu-Lapu City, where I continued to grow academically before transferring to Lanao, just as the pandemic hit. Even though the circumstances were tough, I remained committed to my studies and my role as an active participant in class discussions. I eventually graduated with high honors and became the class valedictorian of my senior high school class. My academic journey serves as a testament to the fact that intelligence isn't something you're born with, but something that can be cultivated through hard work, perseverance, and a desire to learn. It's never too late to achieve academic success, and I’ve learned that what you do today shapes the person you will become tomorrow.
Hi! I’m Miguel Catubig, I am 20 years old. I’m currently studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education major in Biology. Funny enough, I originally saw myself to becoming an animal biologist—doing fieldwork, studying wildlife, and contributing to research. But along the way, things shifted and I found myself drawn to teaching instead.
I’m more on the quiet side, I am introvert actually, so getting into education was definitely a bit outside my comfort zone at first. But the more I got into it, the more I realized that teaching isn’t just about explaining facts, it’s about connecting with students, keeping them engaged, and growing right alongside them. I’ve been learning how to be more interactive in class, how to explain things in a way that makes sense, and how to build real connections with the people I teach.
Even though I didn’t plan to end up here, I’m really glad I did. Teaching has shown me just how important educators are in shaping how students see the world. I hope to pass on my love for biology and help my students stay curious and excited about learning, just like I’ve always been.
"Unsa imong course nga gikuha, gang?" "Educ, ate," "Aw maayo na, parehas sa imong mama."
Being young, I really haven't thought of myself being in front of the class and teaching kids something. Coming from a family of mostly teachers, I planned on taking up something different, something medicine-related. At least, that's what I thought. As I grew older, the things that I wanted changed. Suddenly, I'm in MSU-IIT taking up BSED-Biology, a program for teaching. For the past months I've spent inside the university, I've grown fond of it. Fond of the classes, the people, the moral lessons it gave me, and most especially the idea of teaching. I am excited to know where this path of life will take me. With God's guidance, I aspire to be one of the people that imparts knowledge.
Ms. Jas Atasha Leia Costo, LPT, soon at your service!
As my family classify me as an "introvert", yet I chose the most extrovert-type of job in the world. Ironic isn't? Hi, there! Farina here! I think you already read my name up there! I am 20 years old taking up the program- BSED-Biology and I am incoming third-year student. I am your future science educator, ready to inspire brilliant young minds. Enjoy you tour around our e-portfolio, I hope we inspired somehow. Anneyeong!
I am a 19-year-old second-year BSEd Physics student. My journey in science began when I was in grade 8 high school, I was chosen to represent our school in a Division Science-fair contest. Back then I was not really interested in science but because of my coach in that contest, my perspective about science changes. During that time before the contest, I studied a lot of books for our preparation in the contest, and one thing that really caught my attention are the books of my Coach about Science Amazing Facts. I used to share the things I learned to my classmates which boosted my morale and motivates me more into studying. In that instance, I was fascinated and started to dedicate myself into learning more about science.
Since 1st grade in High School, I represented our school in Science-Fairs and other sports until I graduated. Balancing my academic life and life as a student athlete. Eventually, I graduated with high honors and became the class valedictorian of my senior high school class. In my academic journey, all I seek is something fun, but guess what? Learning something new is very fun and interesting.

"To teach science is to open minds to discovery—to turn questions into exploration and everyday observations into meaningful learning that connects students to the living world around them."
Farina M. Dimacaling
"Teaching science is telling the story of life—revealing nature’s poetry in every heartbeat, leaf, and atom."
Nash L. Eliodra
Teaching science for me is about helping students see the world around them and understand how things work. It's about asking questions, exploring answers, and encouraging curiosity. I want students to develop a clear understanding of scientific ideas while also learning to think critically and solve problems. To me, teaching science is about making it interesting and relevant so students feel excited to learn and discover new things.

"Teaching science is a meaningful endeavor that cultivates analytical thinking, fosters intellectual curiosity, and empowers learners to understand and engage with the fundamental principles that shape the natural world."
We chose this image as our e-portfolio background because it reflects the fluidity and power of life — core concepts in Biology. The underwater perspective of the wave symbolizes exploration, movement, and the unseen forces that shape living systems. As future Biology educators, we aim to dive deep into knowledge and inspire others to see the beauty and complexity of the natural world.
