This domain focuses on one of the most important aspects of teaching having strong content knowledge and knowing how to effectively deliver it to students across different curriculum areas, making learning more relevant and engaging for students. It emphasizes the vital role to skillfully use the Mother Tongue, Filipino, and English in instruction to support better comprehension and inclusivity.
Over the course of my teaching internship, Domain 1: Content Knowledge and Pedagogy evolved from merely a framework to something I lived and breathed every single day . Using my subject expertise across several curriculum domains was both enjoyable and difficult, particularly when I had to imaginatively link courses so my young students could grasp ideas, quite hard for me because my students were Kinder-Grade 3.
I learned that mastering the subject matter is important, but making it meaningful and relatable to students’ real lives is what truly brings learning to life, I often hear teachers say that content and knowledge is the most important aspect in teaching and I believe in that.
The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in education, through tools such as educational YouTube videos and interactive activities, significantly enhanced student engagement and transformed lessons into memorable experiences. While promoting literacy and numeracy presented challenges, it was rewarding to witness gradual improvements in students during personalized reading sessions and enjoyable math games. Additionally, the development of critical and creative thinking skills was emphasized, with effective questioning techniques fostering deeper thought and greater confidence in self-expression among students.
My internship showed me that Domain 1 is about molding young minds with patience, creativity, and love, not only about teaching lessons.
