My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I want to help them cultivate their talents and skills so they may be able to use those in the future. For this reason, I will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks.
I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they’ve graduated from high school or college. Education isn’t something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It’s a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs.
I believe that there are five essential elements that are conducive to learning. First, the teacher's role is to act as a guide. I want the students to grow not by spoon feeding but instead, they themselves should discover the lesson. I want them to build their own insights and perspectives on the lessons that I teach. Second, the students must have access to hands-on activities. This is to exercise both their cognitive and locomotor skills. Third, the students should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning. Personally, I learn more efficiently when I discover the lessons of the topic myself. It is evident that when the learner truly gets the essence of the topic, the lesson gained is also a lesson retained. Fourth, the students need the opportunity to practice skills in a safe environment. In order for the students to freely express themselves, there is a need to build a safe learning environment for them. When the students know that they can be themselves in the classroom, their talents and skills would flourish like how beautifully flowers bloom when cared for in a suitable environment. Lastly, I believe that for interactive learning progress, technology must be incorporated into the school day. In todays modern technology, there are many ways teachers can do to facilitate an interactive session even at the comfort of our homes. Given this advantage, the students would be able to learn and hone their skills.
