One of the significant challenges I encountered during my internship was teaching agriculture lessons, particularly for Grade 8 students, where the use of computers was required. The difficulty stemmed from the limited resources available at the school, which could not accommodate all students. This was especially challenging when creating PowerPoint presentations or infographics, as these activities were essential for achieving the desired learning outcomes.
To address this, I had to be resourceful and find solutions to make the activities realistic and effective despite the limitations. I explored alternative ways to present the lessons, such as group work or rotating computer usage, ensuring that all students could participate meaningfully. These adjustments allowed me to meet the learning objectives while fostering creativity and collaboration among the students.
One of the most challenging aspects of my internship occurred during the 2nd quarter, when our topics focused entirely on agriculture. For one particular week, I was required to provide a video and documentary presentation daily to connect our lessons with real-life agricultural situations. While this task was both enriching and insightful, it came with a major obstacle: poor internet and signal connectivity.
Every time I attempted to present my videos, the weak signal made it difficult to stream or access the files smoothly. This technical issue often disrupted my discussions and caused unnecessary delays. To address this, I devised a proactive solution: I downloaded all the necessary videos ahead of time and saved them on a flash drive. By doing so, I ensured seamless access to the materials and prevented connectivity issues from hindering the flow of my discussions.
During my internship, I observed that the school lacked a proper agricultural area, which posed a significant challenge for both teaching and learning. Although there was a small farm bed beside the TLE office, it was not well-maintained and lacked proper care to serve as an effective resource for agricultural lessons. This was particularly challenging because many topics required students to conduct actual observations of soil, plants, and agricultural areas.
In one of my activities, where students were supposed to observe and analyze the condition of the area, the lack of a functional agricultural site made it difficult to execute the lesson as planned. To address this, I took the initiative to bring the students to a location within the school premises that had several calamansi plants in pots. This allowed them to have hands-on experience and apply the concepts discussed in class despite the limitations.
This challenge highlights the need for the school to prioritize the development and maintenance of a dedicated agricultural area. Having such a resource would not only make lessons more engaging and interactive but also remove obstacles for teachers in delivering practical, real-life learning experiences.
One of the most challenging parts of my internship journey was managing my daily commute to school. Since my classes started at 7:30 A.M., I needed to wake up early every day. However, riding a jeepney often made this routine more difficult, as drivers would sometimes stop at multiple points along the route to wait for more passengers, which delayed my commute.
This routine became even more challenging on days when I was not feeling well due to lack of sleep, staying up late to prepare lessons, or overall tiredness from the previous day’s activities. There were moments when it felt almost impossible to wake up on time and maintain my energy throughout the day.
Despite these difficulties, I made it a point to push through and ensure I arrived at school early every morning. This discipline allowed me to start my day productively and stay on top of my responsibilities as an intern. This experience taught me the importance of resilience, time management, and maintaining a positive mindset even in the face of physical and logistical challenges.
