The Arctic Region has two main features. Along the region's southern border is the Brooks Range, which is the northernmost extension of the Rocky Mountains. The Brooks Range are rugged mountains, whose highest peaks reach up to 10,000 ft. Stretching north from the Brooks Range to the Arctic Ocean is a long, flat, treeless plain called the North Slope.
