Migratory Education Program
Migratory Education Program
Welcome to the KPBSD Migratory Education Website! This site is designed to help Migratory students and families access information and resources.
KPBSD operates a Migratory Education program that provides supplemental academic support for migrant-eligible students and their families. These services help ensure that students do not fall behind academically because of their migratory status.
Migratory Education is a federally funded program which is authorized through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The focus of the program is to identify and provide academic support to students who qualify for enrollment.
The goal of the Migratory Education Program is to ensure that all migratory students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a GED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.

Mission: In collaboration with parents, the KPBSDs Migratory Education Program’s mission is to ensure all migratory children reach challenging academic standards throughout their unique educational experience. We will empower migrant children to overcome barriers and successfully transition to postsecondary life.
Vision: Migratory children and families will successfully navigate their educational journey.
"This is an amazing program. I am so impressed with all of the resources that my child has had access to." -Migrant Parent
Alaska’s migratory children are identified and recruited by trained migrant education staff in each school district. It is the primary role of the recruiter to determine potential eligibility.
In Alaska the term migratory child means a child or youth who is entitled to free public education or is not yet at grade level at which free public education is offered, made a qualifying move due to economic necessity across school district boundaries (or 20 or more miles to a temporary residence in a school district of more than 15,000 square miles) for at least 7 total nights, in the preceding 36 months:
as a migratory agricultural worker or a migratory fisher; or
with, or to join, a parent/guardian or spouse who is a migratory agricultural worker or a migratory fisher.
