Indigenous Language Film Festival

2024 Festival
General Guidelines
Movies will be 1-5 minutes long
Movies will be submitted by a URL (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)
Movies will be "G" rated
Filmmakers must get permission to film all participants in their movies - see the Media Release forms.
Filmmakers must email all media releases to Rachel Pioch in order for their film to be accepted.
Movies will be shown at the Film Festival in late February and may be used for educational purposes in KPBSD and tribal organization classrooms.
Movies will include "credits" that acknowledge partcipants.
Languages
Movies can have from 1-100% of the dialogue in an Indigenous language.
Movies will have English subtitles for all non-English words.
Optional - Filmmakers can state what percentage of the dialogue is in an Indigenous language.
Age Divisions
Birth-4th Grade
5-8th Grade
9-12th Grade
Family Group or Class (ie. the Johnson Family, or Nanwalek's K-2 Grade Class)
Adult
The oldest filmmaker determines the category.
Who Can Submit A Movie?
Anyone who lives in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. You do NOT need to be a KPBSD student to enter.
Can a Group of Students Submit a Movie?
Yes! Individuals or groups can submit a movie. Just remember that the oldest person in the group determines the age division.
Do We Need Media Releases?
Yes, every participant (filmmakers too) must have a signed permission slip (media release). There are different forms for students and adults/elders. All forms will need to be scanned and emailed to Rachel Pioch.
Can a Class Submit a Movie?
Yes! Just make sure you have permission from the families of each student that is in the video.
Are There Prizes?
Each filmmaker will be recognized and thanked for their contribution to the festival. No "prizes" are given.
Are The Movies Judged?
No. Movies are not judged or ranked. Instead, all movies will be celebrated and shown as part of the festival.
Where Will the Festival Be Held?
The Festival will be held online and simulcast in locations around the Peninsula.
