The most important region Alaska is a part of is the United States. The United States is first and foremost a political region. Alaska, with the other 49 states, are all part of the same nation and share the same national government and laws. Nearly 60% of Alaska's land is owned by the U.S. federal government.

Much of Alaskan culture is American culture. To give just a few examples, consider how our holiday traditions, fashion, language, and TV programming mostly come from being part of the U.S .

The United States is also an economic region. When we go to the store we pay in U.S. dollars. The vast majority of Alaska's trade is with businesses in the rest of the U.S. And Alaska's largest employers are either American companies, such as Walmart, Trident Seafoods and ConocoPhillips, or the U.S. federal government. In fact the U.S. federal government is the largest generator of jobs in Alaska.
