North American Geologic Regions
Alaska's mountain ranges are extensions of larger North American mountain ranges, such as the Rocky and Coastal Mountain systems.
Just as Alaska is physically an extension of North American landforms, its plant and animal species are largely North American species.
North American Biomes
While we might not think of it this way, North America is also an economic region. The three nations of North America (the U.S., Canada, and Mexico) are part of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement). This means Alaska has free trade and strong economic ties to Canada and Mexico.
There are over 50,000 Latinos in Alaska, and the majority of these are Mexicans, making them the second largest minority ethnic group in the state after Alaskan Natives.
