Chapter 1.1

Alaska in the World

Alaska does not exist by itself but is a part of the bigger world around it. It is deeply connected with other places in the world in a wide variety of ways. In this presentation, we will look at five important larger world regions Alaska is a part of. What defines each of these regions varies quite a bit. It can be political, cultural, ecological, economic, or even based on geology. The key point is that for each of these regions, there is an important shared connection that links Alaska with these other places in the world.

In this lesson we will explore the following five world regions that Alaska is an important part of:

  1. The United States
  2. North America
  3. The Arctic
  4. The North Pacific
  5. The Ring of Fire
