IAMS Biophysics Core Facility User’s Regulations
2023/7/03
The Biophysics Core Laboratory currently consists of two rooms. Room 328 has a confocal microscope and related computer equipment, while Room 326 contains a cell culture facility and various other instruments. The laboratory is currently only open to IAMS and its collaborating laboratories. Users of the core laboratory are charged fees to maintain the proper functioning of the instruments. These fees are collected from the affiliated laboratories every three months, specifically in January, April, July, and October each year, covering the preceding three months' total instrument usage fees.
Room 326 of the Biophysics Core Laboratory is applying for BSL-2 (Biosafety Level 2) certification. Access to this room will require all personnel to wear regularly cleaning lab coats and undergo 4 hours of annual biosafety related training courses before being granted entry.
Entry to both laboratories will require an access card. Those wishing to enter the Biophysics Core Laboratory must undergo evaluation and approval by the Biophysics core manager before access privileges are granted.
All research personnel are required to undergo formal training and pass the qualification exam before they can gain access to the Biophysics Core Laboratory and use any of its equipment. Those who have yet to pass the qualification exam are not permitted to operate the instruments unsupervised.
Qualified users can reserve the instruments online up to three weeks in advance. Reservation is based on first come first serve. The Biophysics core manager reserves the right to cancel the user's reservation if maintenance is required.
Damage resulting from carelessness or improper use is considered a violation. The user and his/her PI will be held accountable for the cost of the repair.
Reservations are required for the use of the instruments. Please note that reservations may only be made under your own name. It is not allowed to make reservations or fill out the records under someone else's name. Please fill in the logbook after you’re finished with the instrument.
Food and beverages are not allowed inside the Biophysics Core Laboratory. Be sure to take all your personal belongings and waste with you when you leave the laboratory.
Only use the storage space that is assigned to you in the refrigerator, freezer and space with Biophysics Core Laboratory.
Data backup is the responsibility of the user and may only be done through cloud storage. The use of thumb drives in L328 is strictly prohibited to prevent computer viruses.
Reservations are required to use the instruments. Cancellations must be informing Biophysics core manager in advance. Failure to inform the Biophysics core manager of a canceled reservation will result in normal usage fees being charged.
Only one certificate user from each laboratory is allowed to operate the autoclave, oven and dishwasher. The designated usage time for these instruments is 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily.
Any violation of the rules will result in the suspension of access to the Biophysics Core Facility. The first violation will be depending on the seriousness of the circumstances, and result in a one-week suspension at the most. The second violation will result in a two-week suspension. Repeat violators will be suspended indefinitely and be reported to the Biophysics Committee.
Please inform the Biophysics core manager in advance if you plan to use organic solvents or other chemical-related substances, especially toxic, concerned or volatile chemical substances. There is No chemical hood in the Biophysics Core Laboratory, users are required to prepare samples in their own laboratories and bring them to Biophysics Core Laboratory for measurement. If any liquid is accidentally spilled, immediately notify the Biophysics core manager for prompt handling in accordance with emergency response regulations.
If there are any disputes, you can submit an appeal to the Biophysics Core Committee. The Biophysics Core Committee has the right to change the IAMS Biophysics Core Facility User’s Regulations at any time; however, users will be notified of the changes.
