Students in orchestra will learn how to play an instrument and work with other students to perform as a string orchestra. Students begin the year by learning how to read music and different music symbols, so no previous experience in playing an instrument is required. We will walk through all the different instruments together and students will decide which instrument they'd like to play.
Students in orchestra get the choice between violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Students may purchase their own instrument, rent one from our music providers, or borrow one from CMS. These borrowed instruments are on a first come first served basis, so it is recommended that students rent from a music store or provide their own.
Band and orchestra students perform 2 concerts each year, one in the winter and one in the spring, for friends and family. We also may perform for various community events. Some opportunities include All County Band/Orchestra, Region Band/Orchestra, All-State Band/Orchestra, Solo and Ensemble, and Concert Performance Assessment.
