Students in band will learn how to play an instrument and play with other students in a concert band. Students begin the year by learning how to read music and different music symbols, so no previous experience in playing an instrument is required. We will walk through all the different instruments together and students will decide which instrument they'd like to play.
Students in band get the choice of flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. In the second semester, they may switch to percussion, French horn, or tuba. Students may purchase their own instrument, rent one from our music providers, or borrow one from CMS. These borrowed instruments are on a first come first served basis, so it is recommended that students rent from a music store or provide their own.
Band and orchestra students perform 2 concerts each year, one in the winter and one in the spring, for friends and family. We also may perform for various community events. Some opportunities include All County Band/Orchestra, Region Band/Orchestra, All-State Band/Orchestra, Solo and Ensemble, and Concert Performance Assessment. In 7th grade, students may begin to participate in the CHS marching band.
