School Counseling

Resource Page

Hello Seahurst Families and Students!

It's Ms. Zike here, your School Counselor! I miss seeing you in person and wanted to create a website to provide resources for you and to stay connected during this period of distance learning. This is an unpredictable and challenging time for all of us, and I want you to know that I am still here to support you and we will make this a great new school year together!

Please take a minute to meet Ms. Beristain Rivera, scroll down to see her introduction! I am so excited that she will be working with us this year each Monday and Thursday as part of her training to become a School Counselor!

Some services Ms. Beristain Rivera and I will be providing remotely during the closure include:

  • Zoom Appointments - Do you or your student need someone to talk to? We can speak to you or your student using a video chat program called Zoom, or over the phone. We can talk about how you and your family are adjusting to all of the changes and think about how to get through the hard parts. We can explore ways to practice self-care during this time away from school, and how to manage any big feelings that are coming up like feeling worried, angry, or bored.

  • Small Groups- We will offer some small (Zoom) groups for students and would LOVE to hear from any parents who would like to be a part of a parent group. Groups can be on a specific topic (like managing worry) or more general (like a peer support group to build connections for those feeling isolated) or could be a book group with shared reading and discussion. We would LOVE to have some small parent groups in addition to student groups, so please let me know if you are interested!

  • Recommended Activities -We will post information and activities for both parents and students here on my web page that challenge us to keep growing social-emotional skills, such as positive communication, problem-solving, and managing strong feelings. It may be a short video, story, or family activity. Check it out and come back often, We will keep adding things to it. Reach out and let us know if there are certain topics you are interested in.

  • Accessing Community Resources - We will have up to date community resources listed on this site under the Community Resources tab . We are also available to help explore and access other services you may need that are not included on this site.

If you have any questions or need additional support, you can reach out and call from 8:00-4:00 Monday through Friday, my Google Voice number to call or text is: 1-541-632-3887

My Seahurst office phone number is: 206-631-4816, and when you leave a phone message it will send it right to my email and I'll know to call you right back.

Of course you can always send an e-mail at: carolyn.zike@highlineschools.org.

We will make this year great together!

Hello Seahurst Family,

My name is Cintya Beristain Rivera. I will be working with Ms. Zike this year as a school counseling intern. I am currently in my third year of the Master in School Counseling program at Seattle University. I went to school in Mexico, from kindergarten to college, though I graduated with my Bachelor's degree from Seattle University. I am an English language learner, Spanish is my first language.

I grew up in a semirural community, in a farmlike setting. I have one daughter. She is going to be a 4th grader at Cedarhurst Elementary School. I love to listen to music in English and Spanish, watch movies (I love foreign movies), go on walks, and spend time with friends and family. Our family pet is a cat named Donnie. My latest hobby is horseback riding.

I am excited to be a part of the Seahurst family, to get to know you all, and to support you.
