Field Trips

Getting in the field is an excellent opportunity for all EPS graduate students. During your time with EPS, you may both plan and participate in local and international field trips.

As a TF, you are expected to help the course head plan course field trips (unless otherwise started by the course head). This page provides information on working with EPS administration to make sure everything is ready to go.

The graduate field trip is separate from course field trips and takes place every August before the beginning of the fall semester. All incoming and current graduate students are invited to attend. Trips may include visits to geological sites and outcrops, hiking, tours of mines, research facilities, national parks, etc. A team of two to three graduate students serve as coordinators to choose a destination region, plan and lead the trip, prepare the budget, and report on the trip upon return. All participants may be invited to contribute to the field guide and give a short presentation about regional features, the local environment, a scientific concept, flora and fauna, etc. Prior trip locations include Wyoming, Maine, the Southwest US, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Iceland, Quebec, and Spain.

Local Geo Club Field Trips
