Committees of Correspondence

COMMITTEES OF CORRESPONDENCE

In 1772, Samuel Adams organized the first committee of correspondence to promote discussion regarding colonial dissatisfaction with Great Britain and potential threats to the colonists' rights and liberties.

The committees were crucial both before and during the American Revolution; they provided a means of communication between patriot leaders and played a major role in promoting colonial unity.
