AP courses vs DE courses

(There are many resources online with more detailed pros and cons of each program. Here are a few highlights.)

AP Courses

1) Year long courses

2) Possible college credit depending on AP test scores and college acceptance of score. Scores depend on one test at the end of the course.

3) Widely recognized- check colleges you are interested in for details

4) Must pay to take AP test

5) Generally, more academically rigorous

6) 10 points is added to grade in class at MVHS

7) MVHS teachers and classmates to work together in course.

8) GPA can be above a 4 by taking AP courses.

DE Courses

1) semester long courses

2) College credit earned by making a "C" or higher in the course. Not dependent on a final test, but rather performance throughout a course.

3) You can take classes that are not offered at MVHS.

4) FREE (up to 30 hours)!!

5) Less academically rigourous than AP courses, but still college level courses.

6) Credits transfer easily in the state of Georgia (and some out-of-state colleges, too!)- check colleges you are interested in for details

7) You take college classes, but with the guidance of the high school and your peers. It is a good way to get a "college experience".

8) Flexibility to complete assignments- for example, a quiz might be due on Friday, but was "opened" the Monday before, giving you a few days to choose when to complete the quiz.

YOU CAN DO BOTH!

We have many students that participate in both the Advanced Placement Program AND the Dual Enrollment Program!
