Spelling high-frequency words can be challenging because many don't follow standard phonetic rules. Using visual, auditory, and hands-on techniques helps transfer these tricky words into long-term memory.
Look, Cover, Write, Check: Have your child look at the word, cover it up with a card or hand, write it down from memory, and uncover the word to check their spelling against the original.
Rainbow Writing: Write a word in pencil, then have your child trace over the exact same letters using three or four different colored crayons or markers to build visual memory.
Tap and Spell: Have your child break the word down by tapping their shoulder, elbow, and wrist for each letter while saying the letters aloud, then sweeping their arm down as they read the whole word.
